Hello to All!,
Driving my L300 1992 the other day and pulling away gently from some traffic lights I get a horrible and expensive sounding noise from the engine!
Naturally I stopped straight away but later had to drive clear of the junction.
The engine was very clattery and lacking in power, and I suppose the most likely cause is that the cam belt has stretched or slipped.
I was planning to investigate it this weekend.
Are there any special problems with taking off the belt covers to check whats happening? after that I probably need to lift the head to check for damage, again any special Delica Problems?
I'm grateful for any help or suggestions!
- Colin.

Well, the covers and various drive belts are off and the problem seems to be with the balance shaft belt tensioner. The bearings it inside have been running dry and eventually self destructed - I think some of the bearing cage debris has caught in one of the belt pulleys. Both belts actually look undamaged but will be replaced anyway - probably both tensioners too.
More info as it happens!

that sounds like the idler pulley. On Bruces (Mystery Machine) recommendation I swapped mine when I fitted new belts, they weren't cheap though. As it happens mine felt okay, but Bruce reports that his were notchy.

Hi All,
I put the new cam belts etc. on at the weekend. I replaced belt 'B' tensioner only (£30+vat), the other seemed okay (it costs about £75+vat) and both belts(from milners).

Turning the engine over after fitting the parts and checking tappet clearance everything seemed okay. Started it up briefly and no strange noises heard. So I put it all back together - and it looks like I've had a lucky escape, engine feels fine no unusual noises or vibration!

There is of course lots if info and handy tips on the P.O.C. Forums.
The main problems I had were locking the flywheel to undo the crank pulley nut which is extremely tight.
Also is there an easy way to tension the Power steering pump belt? - this is a real knuckle skinner!

Regards to All - Colin.

Had this problem before on another motor, couldn't get it undone at all, ended up taking it to a garage and come straight undone with an air tool 8)
