In this photo you can see the slave cylinder at the bottom (with two bolt holes)

Just above it is another cylinder bolted to the gear linkage mounting.
The pipe from the slave goes into this mystery cylinder at one end and out the other end to the master

Another any idea what it is, or what its for?
Its leaking for sure - so needs fixing or more probably bypassing if it isn't essential.

Should say I'm talking about a L300 5sp manual gearbox clutch slave (on the PinkPig)

I'm no mechanic and have zero knowledge of the L300 engines but I've just looked on the Mitsu parts program at the L300 (Manual gearbox model) Master Cylinder parts diagrams.

I recall someone saying you have a 4D56 engine in the 2.5's and wondered if it could be the item in the extra parts box for the 4D56 engine that I've clicked on at the bottom right of the diagram - Clutch Release Cylinder?

The box with item 20100A at the top is the Master Cylinder assembly!

That's the one. Thanks for finding that - my diagrams don't show it and i've never seen one on any other vehicle.

Wonder how it works?
Must be some sort of compensator to prevent the clutch being released to quick or something.

Maybe it restricts the flow of clutch fluid so that it slows the operation of the clutch to prevent jerky operation.
I shall have to have a look under mine!!

Well for info - it has some sort of one way (or maybe two-way?) valve inside that does something to the fluid flow in either direction 9depress and release).
repair guy by-passed it and then the clutch release wouldn't work at all.

company called japtech sourced a new one (£55 Shocked ) and the clutch is light as a feather.

these vans are bl00dy odd things!

Has anyone found out, or knows, what this clutch release cylinder does ?

I take it that the Pig has a hydraulic clutch with a normal clutch slave cylinder? I reckon Ian's anti-kangaroo suggestion is a gòod one.

Yes, it seems it is a semi-one-way valve that restricts the return of the fluid in one direction to smooth the snatch out of the clutch release.

I agree also, the return does look slower.

I bled my slave cylinder on the H100 at the weekend, in the hope it would lighten up, and the fluid was filthy.
