The handbrake operates a set of shoes, whilst the footbrake uses calipers. The adjuster for the handbrake shoes is accessible through a slot below the axle.

Effectively its a small piston. Turning the cog pushes one end of the shoes apart:-

First you will need to have the vehicle on level ground with the gear in park and the hand brake off and the rear wheels off the ground.

1. Remove the plastic cover base cover on the handbrake lever.
2. Facing to the rear of the seat from the lever is a threaded rod. undo the nut as far as possible.
3. Remove the grommets from both rear wheels.
4. Insert a short wide blade screwdriver to rotate the cog on the piston.
5. Turn it until the shoes are pushed against the drum, so the wheel cannot turn, IIRC its upwards on the nearside to tighten and the opposite way on the offside??, but you will soon work that out.  Wink
6. Once tightened up back the cog off about 4-5 clicks, so the wheel turns freely.
7. Adjust the nut on the handbrake lever so that you only require about 3-4 clicks, on the ratchet, to fully engage the brake so the wheel will not turn.
8. Replace the handbrake lever cover, job done.
