Technically you can - if it is legal depends on your local authorities.
Usually all legal sizes are in the car papers.

I'm not sure about the French regulations on tyres, but I think you are required to keep to the same specs as the initial registration.

However in the UK you can change tyre sizes, though its not a good idea to change to a size that is greater than 3% difference from the stock tyre.

Your choice would be a bad idea over here.

Going down from a sidewall size of 80 (179.83mm) to 70 (157.48mm) will give a wheel diameter difference of 6.07%.  :?

Revolutions per Mile: will change from 713.0 to 759.1 which will alter your Tachometer reading.

Actual Speed: 100 km/h  Tachometer reading = 106. km/h

Speedometer Difference: 6.465% too fast

THANKS FOR THAT ADVICE ON THE SIZE OF THE TYRES AND THE  DIFERANCE
IT WOULD MAKE TO THE SPEEDO READING. I WILL TRY TO GET A CLOSER MATCH SUCH AS 235/75/15

That would be better, but you will find 30x9.5R15 closer to the original.

NB: Please don't type in capital letters.
On the internet its considered to be rude, as its classed as shouting, such as when arguing!  Wink

You can off course go for the original size now as they are becoming more readily available now.  Got some for mine made by Goodyear with a good looking 4 x 4 tread too!  They came from Just Tyres

Point taken, should've taken more notice of the original thread!  Was trying to get over that the odd Japanese size was becoming more available over here in Europe.
