Does that make any sense? :?

It's quite simple.
Use the 'insert URL' button in the 'post a reply' editor, it's the one that has a picture of the world with a couple of chain links under it.
This will open pop up box with 'Enter a url'. In this you put the address of the actual page you want to link to,
e.g http://www.MDOCUK.co.uk
when you then click the okay button the pop-up changes and asks for 'page name', this is the actual text that will appear in your reply, if you enter the same http://MDOCUK.co.uk you will get this:
http://www.MDOCUK.co.uk

but if you enter some other text in the second box you'll get this:
Best owners web site on t'internet

Does that make sense ?

The best site on the net!

Yep certainly did. :D

Thanks very much

Next question,

How would I do that in an Email or on MSN?

Follow the steps in this example mate...

Look [url=http://***.MDOCUK.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23576][*]HERE[/*][/url] for a Video thread with chat

Everything inside the[] has been left the same except WWW in web address has been changed to *** that disabled it from working and also the * either side of the HERE replaced a b also changed to stop it working

so its

Look (in this example) then
open [=

paste in url location after you've copied it from somewhere like the address bar or photobucket or where ever

close ]

then
[*] except use a b not a *

then type the HERE but that can be any text you like i.e. PICS OF MY '94 L400 etc

then
[/b]

then the close it up with the [/url]

Job done...

or

copy and paste this

[url=*****][#]HERE[/#][/url]

then change the ***** for a web addy and the # # with b

for a practice

The standard 'HTML' code (in blue below) might work in emails if they're sent in HTML format:

<a href="http://www.MDOCUK.co.uk">Best website ever!</a>

No idea about MSN.

For goodness sake ...

A veritable mountain appears to have been made out of a molehill here!!!

Let me give a simple example that should illustrate it pefectly for inclusion of a 'text link' in your posts on the forums ...

To get THIS LINK in your post, do this (the bit INSIDE the 'code' box!) :

Code:

To get [url=http://www.MDOCUK.co.uk][b]THIS LINK[/b][/url] in your post ...

Which, in your post will look like this :

To get THIS LINK in your post ...

I hope that makes sense?

If you want to put similar links in an email, your own website, etc - then you need to start looking at html ;)

Simon Rolling Eyes

ps ... Jase ... could you have made it any more complicated? hilarious

Cheers Simon

I think I have the hang of it for the posts now but my main thing is doing it in Emails and MSN :?

But I think I'll just leave it as the whole link, I just have this thing (like with my car) the subtle things make a real difference.

I don't like things to appear untidy Rolling Eyes

I have lots of other questions concerning posts but I didn't want to confuse myself further.

Things like different smileys and how to create a moving signature picture/avatar but I think I'll just leave it as it is Laughing  Laughing

Mmm maybe I could have written my over complicated and longwinded post in a French or Japanese?

That would possibly make it more complicated  Shocked

Cheers J

No worries mate at least you made the effort. Wink

I think as I say I'll just carry on putting the whole link in and pretend it doesn't bother me Laughing

Most mail programs will have a tool bar that contains a button to add a link in a similar way to the forum, it's usually a chain link or picture of earth (the planet not the natural coating of the Delica)

I use gmail, so mines a little chain link (in between the smiley face and the bullet points):
