Hi

Does anyone know somewhere that will set my L300 Deli up properly.
I had a local mobile guy do some work and he had a fiddle with the pump,
now when i pull away or hit the loud pedal loads of black smoke and it drinks like a fish.
A part from that it runs fine no misfires or poor idling but every garage I try, do the usual bit....A Deli what....Ah import.....could be anything........and we have just got rid of our ten foot barge pole.
So if anyone knows a good garage in the Bucks, Slough, High Wycombe area, could you let me know.

Thanks

Mark.

It's possible that the pump timing is too retarded, a diesel specialist should be able to time it correctly in less than an hour. But, mine was as smokey as the vatican electing a new pope, blanking off the EGR valve has removed all traces of smoke, so this could be another option.

Problem solved ! Laughing

Fitted new K & N air filter WOW I have power again and no huge plumes of smoke whereever I go.
Thinking about it should have been obvious, but air filter was less than 4 months old and only done 4,000 miles, none off road ( pity ) or in very dusty conditions.
I brought the filter from Milners, but it was only when I read that some of you had problems with air filters from them that the penny dropped.
Only one problem with new filter....tooo loud, so a little sound proofing felt was required to hush it down a tad.

okay Mutley,

Confession time, I am a fully paid up member of the wodge it and bodge it club.
The K & N filter is for a Renault 19 ( code 57-0051 ) , basically I opened up a lot of boxes and thought this one would fit in the gap, also the neck looked about the right size.
Got it home, took out old filter housing, jubilee clipped new one on, a couple of cable ties to stop it bouncing all over the place......SORTED.

Well not quite, Deli now sounded like someone had taken the back box off the exhaust, very thoaty, fine at speed but around town OH so loud.
Back to car shop and brought some sound proofing felt, cut it into chunks,
filled in the open areas, whilst leaving enough room around it for the thing to breath.

It was £32 half price in the sale, but don't go to halfords they charge an arm and leg.

Now someone with a bit more mechanical know how,and time could fit the filter inside the original housing, thus doing away with the felt sound proofing, I will have a go when I have some free time.

This has made such a differance to the performance I had forgot that it will do 75-80 on the flat instead off 65.

Going up to the lake district tomorrow, so will be able to judge the fuel consuption as it had dropped to about 20 before putting new filter on.

Hope that this has been some help.

Happy Christmas Mark :D
