|
|
Hi all,
I thought the original unit wasn't too bad after fitting the band expander...that is until I drove out of Cardiff.
It seems that Cardiff is the only place in the Country that there is a strong enough signal to work.
I am sure that others use original units with no problems, so what is the problem here? As soon as I get a few miles from the City, the signal fades and disappears, only to return when I drive back again! I have driven all over the place lately and not a peep from the speakers.
Do I need a signal booster if there is such a thing? I suppose the aerial connection may have fallen out or something, but it is a bind to take the console off again. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Rob |

Don't want to ask a daft question but have you fully extended the aerial? It makes a hell of a difference on mine, but then I rarely listen to the radio _________________

It's a good question Russ and unfortunately the answer is yes, it is extended!

2 things come to mind... Giving the mast a good clean, but I'm assuming you will already have done that so the only other thing apart from a loose earth connection you've already thought of is whether the power supply to the band expander is okay? Again that's assuming your band expander needed a power supply _________________

I still have the original unit, fitted with the band expander. I've had no problems with it , Everywhere i have took it from Blackpool to Brighton i get a great reception. Maybe you can get different quality expanders?? or maybe your aerial is past its best?? _________________ Steve 2000 bmw 325i sport , now Deli-less

There are 2 aerials on some models - & I don't think you can confuse them as the additional unit is a smaller plug that links to an internal aerial found stuck to the near side rear window. - Just want you to make sure the band expander is connected to the big aerial that pokes out the roof?
I have to say - fiting a UK spec car stereo is fairly easy which is why I dumped the original head unit a long time ago. _________________ 1995 Super Exceed LWB Chrome Pack |
