Would it be possible for someone to post a picture of their Delica with a caravan on the back (hitched), as i hope can understand I'm hopefully moving over from a landrover, and the Delica is somewhat taller and slimmer, i just want to get the image in my head.

is there any known problems towing with the Delica? we are due to pick up our brand new caravan shortly, and weight is 1360kg , is this sort of weight a problem for the Delica , or am i just been paranoid?

thanks in advance,

Martin

safe to say you are very paranoid, These things are based on Shogun/Pajero underpinnings so towing capacities are similiar. I've seen a Deli towing a Deli on a trailer before and it looked quite happy.

so that would mean 2.25tonnes pulling approx 3.25 tonnes...

Something tells me the 1400kg caravan will be fine.

1500 kg on the back of mine and its easy to forget its there......sometimes too easy...

Tows like a dream....

Coming back from Cornwall last year i was overtaken on the motorway (just!) by  vw camper....he pulled in in front of me a bit close...the vauxhaul van/minibus that was up his chuff then pulled in right in front of the vw and pulled basically an emergency stop in front of him (obviously didn't like the vw slowing him up on 'his' motorway) VW went for the hard shoulder....i went for the brakes and the middle lane.....(sorry to whoever was behind but no choice...) i had the antilock going and a radical lane change...

Now my two daughters learnt some new language  Embarassed but at this point i was SURE i was going to loose the van in the biggest way, but nope it just sat there...until we got to the net services and i got out a little 'shaken and stirred'...for clarity i DO have an alko stabiliser hitch and use a nose weight gauge to set the van and carry awnings etc in the back of the Delica inside the wheel base, all of this plus 4WD, mass and luck i think were a huge factor - certainly more than my driving!

1500 kg is fine (some on here tow 1900kg I know for sure) and they tow brilliantly.....that journey was South Cornwall to north Staffordshire in one hit and its fine...

Sounds like you had a lucky escape, well done on your quick thinking !!

Well my mind has been put at rest now with the Delica/caravan question, been a uhum, land rover owner, i carry 4 bikes on a rack that attaches to the spare wheel, and this leaves plenty of clearance for me to hitch the caravan,
With the Delica not having a rear door mounted spare wheel, is there a rack that can carry bikes either on the roof or back door?

sorry Can't help with that one. I've seen racks fitted to the delis in AUS but not over here. I am sure someone will be along soon enough to correct me

i believe you can...but remember the landy door opens sideways while the Deli opens vertically....which might be a tad difficult with the weight of bikes/rack...

Still buy one with a ladder, add a roof crate and chuck em up  or buy a LWB and chuck em in the back (still 4/5 up)

still with a Deli it won't brake down so you won't need the bikes! :D  :D

only kidding!

There is LOADS of space behind the Deli when towing as the hitch mounts well back....if you pm me your email address i can email you some picks of my old rig (new van not photographed yet!)

chris , we mainly go to the camping and caravaning club temp holiday sites, they are mainly in the out and about magazine, theres a couple on the east coast at wilsthorpe/fraisthorpe/and a couple at flamborough,  if you get the dates right, you can spend the whole school holidays on these sites, depends how far you want to go, all our kids want is sand&sea, and at £5 a night, its far cheaper than some £25 a night sites i know of,

I was going to go to the land rover spring adventure may 9 10 11, but i haven't made my mind up yet.

regards, martin

We're looking for some around Flamborough etc or further south Donna Nook ( excuse spelling )

Stayed at a site in Anderby last year which was great £8 per night, but nice and small.

Thanks for tipping us off.

we are in caravan club, but use private sites as well. the site in the pickie was lady margrets at chirk castle. lovely site. but on our trek down to devon every year we have used big sites such as whitehills at stoke gabriel (paignton) or cofton country holidays at dawlish warren. this year we going to merley court in dorset for one week, then down to ramslade in stoke gabriel for second week. find that club sites are a lot cheaper and cleaner than commercial ones. hth. 8-)  8-)

We mainly use CL's and CS's when we go...admitedly not as often as we ought to as find commercial sites as you say are dirty and people don't have many manners as we discovered at Blue Dolphin (Haven) last year.

Certainly won't be going anywhere near them again.

if you are still looking for pics, here is another one for you,

it's abit of a monster, Bailey senator twin axle, but home from home Laughing  Laughing

was taken at a small site in kent - very nice and quiet except for the parrakeets in the trees

has since been lifted so not so bad on the rear now Laughing

so far have been towing without a stabaliser, without too much trouble,

Dave

I use mostly CL's and find it better to carry the bikes on the roof of the car, the downside to that is having to carry a step ladder in order to get them off. I'll see if I can dig out a photo with the bikes on and the caravan on the back
