not entirely technical, but not sure where else to post.
Maybe this is a discussion not a question.
My Deli has MMC on the back, others (same era L300/1988ish) have Mitsubishi. Have noticed this on other Mitsu vehicles.
Is MMC only used in certain markets? or is it a franchise thing (Nissans were marketed in the UK as Datsuns for many years).
Also, mine is called a Star Wagon.. No Exceed or GLX badges (yet spec seems to be Exceed) but one insurance company thought it was a GLX.
All very confusing! Again were they marketed with different labels in different countries?
From what I've found so far the Star Wagon was marketed mainly in Australia.
Anyone know any more? _________________ The PINK PIG!

MMC = Mitsubishi Motor Coorporation
As for Star Wagon part I suppose its no different to buying a VW Fox or VW Rabbit. If your wondering what these are they try VW Golf (Canadian version = Fox) or VW Polo (Canadian version = Rabbit). The Daewoo Nexia or Vauxhall Astra or Opel Kadett.
Depends on the market where its sold.
The Delica is also known as the L400 and Space Gear. Not being an L300 owner I would imagine this is the same Star Wagon, Delica.
With regards to GLX never seen one but seen them advertised on e8ay. As far as I know they are just Exceed, Super Exceed, Royal Exceed, Jasper and Chamonix. There maybe others but I am not a car dealer so I can only tell you what I know. _________________ Delica 2.8 TD Automatic Super Exceed

mines a jap Deli(L300) Star Wagon glxi if that confuses you even more, fairly basic spec i.e. no central locking on front doors, but is high roof with a/c. your appears to be a low roof, so i think there is no real written rule about spec on models :? have only seen badges on exceed etc not on any basic ones |

Thanks for info-
Mine has A/C and central locking, captains chairs, rear heater/ac, but..wind-up windows, low top, no sunroofs. 2.5TD Manual.
Direct Line insist its a GLX so I'm going with that - might get expensive if I argue! _________________ The PINK PIG!

I got the MMC bit, just trying fathom the model and wondered what labels they used in which markets to find out what I've got.
Anyway it seems it is a model made for the Australian market -they use MMC Delica Star Wagon branding for their versions (also goes bing-bong at 77mph/120kmh, their national speed limit).
I'll get a hat with corks on it. |
One problem here is that, as far as I can recall, the Aussi version of the 4WD Star Wagon was never referred to as a Delica.
Also, the national speed limit here is 100kph, so a bing bong at 120kph would be a little redundant.
There are certain motorways (for want of a better name ... generally they are just a bit wider, the bitumen is actually replaced every few years, and they only allow one pothole every 20 meters instead of evey two meters as on normal roads. I may be slightly wrong with those specs, but that's what it seems like) the limit is a massive 110kph. Except between Darwin and Alice Springs where there's apparently no limit at all.
Hats with corks are a real danger on Aussi highways. Far too easy to get oneself knocked out over the bumps at anything above 40kph.

Which reminds me I checked my L300 above the hand throttle and I
don't have any kind of grill, so you may be right it might be there?
