This probably a bit of a "bone" question, but I have just replaced the parking mirror that was missing when I got my Delica, what I am unsure of is how much of the rear of your vehicle are you supposed to see, the whole width or just the nearside corner
When I mounted the mirror onto the arm I was unsure which way up it was supposed to go as the mounting socket is not in the centre of the mirror, but is located approx' two-thirds towards one edge. I can't fathom out which is the top/bottom,or does it really matter
After many journeys from the driver's seat to the rear to adjust it All I can see in the mirror is the nearside corner upto the towbar
On another note how should I mount my parking pole, biased towards the side of the bullbars or twisted towards the front , I have seen them mounted both ways in some of the photo's of reader's drives on this site, is it a matter of personal preference or is there a correct position
Told you it was a "bone" question
Regards,

If the rear miror isn't showing much beyond the rear bumper, then maybe rotate it around so it sticks out a bit more (hope that makes sense??)
It is only there to show the rear corner and half way across the back - it doesn't show the whole way across (unless L400 ones are wider angle than the L300 ones??)
On my L300 I can see the o/s corner and just over half way across the rear bumper - but more importantly, it shows objects within 3ft of the rear which is where it comes in useful.
Regarding the parking pole, it really is down to personal preference, but I always had mine fully forward to show how far out the bullbar came....having it tucked back kinda defeats the object of having one!
This is how I would mount it if I were you (obviously on a 400 though!)

Bruce. _________________ '93 L300 Mystery Machine (High Altitude Edition )

Thanks Bruce,
That answers my question, I went out this morning and swung the mirror round on its axis, my mirror is mounted on the nearside, so my view now is more or less how you've described yours only opposite (does that make sense )
As for the mounting of the parking pole, I agree with you, it makes more sense to me to place it as far forward as possible on the bullbars, and that's exactly what I will be doing as soon as it arrives
Regards,

Glad you got it sorted Ian.
I must say, the location of the rear parking mirror on the L400 is much better than on the L300 - but then we have the added bonus of a cool front parking mirror too!
Why British/European motors never had these sort of things I'll never know?? (judging by the state of some parking around this way, most drivers certainly could do with them!! )

I've never got mine sorted. In fact I'd thought of taking the thing off and mounting a decent work/reversing light in place.
I've always managed without them on 7.5 tonne lorries (Ah.....apart from...er...once ) |

Many thanks for the kind comment - the photo was taken about 3 years ago and a lot has changed since then! (see below for what I mean )
That's always the trouble with me - I can never leave anything alone!
I'm now working on creating a 2nd unique L300 - but in a very different style to the Mystery Machine!

Parking poles were an optional accessory for L400's to enable the driver to see where the front corner of the vehicle is.
These come up on e bay from time to time but tend to go for crazy money because most L400 owners want one!
I worked out how to make one fit an L300 (as can bee seen above) and when I put the newer bullbar on, I gave it to my friend MacPingu (Craig) for his L300.
A few other L300 owners now have them fitted and when you come over to Bristol, I'll show you how to make one fit because I have a 'spare' one that I can use to demonstrate....
Hope that answers your question?
