I'm still out here on BB, I know they are upgrading the BB (I'm should be going to 750k Wink ) but it says on the Service status page that Southamton is out as well :? Weird,
@Marc,I'll have another go at entering those settings but PC and Macs have different names for various settings etc, so I don't hold out much hope....

When the weather gets hot ntl suffer sometimes and its down to the little green cabinets on the roadside, they don't have cooling fans fitted, they fit them to the larger cabs but not the small ones, well they didn't but because of problems they are now starting to do so ,so it should bring some improvement to the BB services of ntl,it also seems that SACM customers of ntl are more stable on there connections than the STB cusstomers, anyways ile try and find out what u need to do russ to enter them in on a mac,

Had a look and this should be what you need i think
Quote:
Setting an explicit web proxy in Internet Explorer for Macintosh

Pull down the Edit menu and select Preferences.
Click the triangle to expand Network.
Select Proxies.
Check Web Proxy.
Uncheck Use Web Proxy for all.
Check Bypass Web Proxy for FTP.
Click the Settings button for Web Proxy to open the settings panel.
Set the Address box to the name of the web proxy server (see above).
Set the Port box to the port number, usually 8080.
Set Method to Normal.
Empty the boxes User Name and Password.
Click okay to return to the main panel.
Uncheck Secure Proxy, Mail Proxy, and Gopher Proxy.
In the box List the sites you want to connect to directly enter: 192.168.*
Click okay.

heres a few decent proxys to use tha normally have good speed and connectivity

cache5-midd.server.ntli.net
cache6-midd.server.ntli.net
cache7-midd.server.ntli.net
cache8-midd.server.ntli.net

Hope that helps if not let me know what version of mac it is your using russ and ile sort sumitt out for ya

Back now on BB, Removed router and rebooted seems okay. but not convinced it was routers fault, Typical NTL emergency line is not working, so can't get in touch with them to check settings....
More later (I expect) Sad

Well, I'm back on BB and thro my router again. Shocked So I can only assume it was an NTL fault as I'm now back to where I was before the aggro :? Only thing is.... BB seems very slow, I'm off to look for some software that measures the speed. If I'm on 750k speed then I'm a ch1n@m@n Twisted Evil
Only problem now is... my computer won't go to sleep Evil or Very Mad Poxy OS update knackered all Macs of my spec :? Oh well... I guess I'll have to wait for the next update..... :|

Sorry to hear that russ, brighton set top box customers were the same yesterday as well, the stand alone cable modem (SACM) seems to be much more reliable, maybe worth bearing in mind, also if you phone them and tell them your not happy blah blah and they can stick there service its just not good enough yadda yadda they normally offer you a few months free Wink :D hope theyve got it sorted this morning for ya,silly thing is there was noting on there service status line about outages in your area :? id complain about that as welll.

service status page :? http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/

Myself and Steeth26 on the pocuk site were having trouble at the weekend, ntl knocked steeths out all day, mine keeps cutting out and then reconnecting every 30 seconds. Apparently a server in watford went down. not sure that it would effect yours tho?

I am still waiting for my speed increase currently on 1meg Rolling Eyes

Alhough to be fair it does say september Rolling Eyes
Heres a good site for all stull related to ntl www.ntlhell.co.uk 8)

Further to the ntlhell link mark(I'm a member there)heres another good one www.nthellworld.co.uk used to be another called nthellworld.com but ntl brought it and pulled the plug on it!
Another good site to check settings and learn a bit oabout BB and proxys dns etc etc is this one http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/trancache.html hes an ntl techy and he knows hes stuff too,I've found with ntl if i run on the brighton proxy it *beep* if i run on one of the others in the list its very very good but its trial and error to find the right ones that are better Wink Wink Wink
