Hi Scatt,
I've just fitted new springs and shocks to the back end, supplied by Bruce,
the springs give it approx 2 extra inches (which now means I don't hit me head on the tailgate ),
the shocks were pro-comp es 9000 I believe,
If your gonna fit new stiffer springs then I would advise new longer shocks as you won't get the travel in the old ones
just got new shocks for the front - matching the rears,
then just gonna give a small tweak to the torsion bars - no more than 2 inches tho'
the ride is much better and would recommend over standard setup,
hth

Have gone for the iron man springs and torsion bars same as Marks(for now),so i know i need longer shocks
Thing is i was slightly put off the iron man shocks by a supplier (but then he now sells Ranchos )
I can source all the shocks iv'e mentioned but just want to know which is best and thought I'd pray on other members experiences
cheers for the replies so-far

I'm of the opinion so long as its branded and a few others have them then you should be fine.........
if your doing track days and trying to shave seconds of the lap then yes shocks make a huge difference, otherwise so long as they do the damping all should be fine... just don't buy Ranc.... too late !! _________________ Regards

Yeah go for the Ranchos, I fitted new 9000's to mine with twins at the rear. The ride quality is fantastic once you get used to making the adjustments to them, once you have found the ideal settings you just up it a bit when you're loaded. It's all good :D _________________ The dude 8)

Was tempted by the 9000's but my wallet said "no"
Might go the rear twin route with 9000's on the outsides of the 5000's later ???

For me personaly it may never happen
It all depends on what the single (none adjustable) ones are like with the caravan on the back ,have been told they are good so i'll wait and see

Mine already had twins on the rear and they turned out to be in good condition when I changed them. Like a plonka I just ordered a new set without much thought so if anyone wants some good rear 9ooo's for a small fee give me a shout. The fronts were absolutely stuffed though _________________ The dude 8)

I'm all for modding the motor, but can some one tell me under what circumstances you would need twin shocks ?
The only time I have seen double shock upgrades is on seriously modded motors that go over harsh terrain at speed and so doubke shocks halves the load per shock and helps prevent overheating while still allowing a soft (ish) ride....
any pics of how its done dinkum ?? I could be tempted just to have it done for the sake of a mod !! _________________ Regards

can someone enlighten me..what would just a 2" lift do to offroading performance? i know sod all about this....but how exactly would 2" make a massive difference? (I've seen the price of these things btw!)...if i was offroading wouldn't i be better taking my aircon and sidesteps off or something?
...help! |

a 2" lift on its own doesn't do a lot, it lifts your body (sills) a bit further off the deck so helps prevent damage, the main reason for lifting it is to fit bigger tyres, bigger tyres are the key, they allow more clearance under the axles and so allow you to traverse rough terain.
Look at a Hummvee (Hummer H1) they actualy do not have massive articulation but run on about 43" tyres !!!!
so lift kit gives more space for bigger tyres as in effect the lift moves the body further away from the axle.
Hope that helps a bit. _________________ Regards
