Does anyone know if Delica's have a habit of the brake calipers seizing?
My Deli has just started sqeaking from the offside front wheel when braking, but now does it when driving slowly. Are the brakes easy to do on the Delica, because I have done them before on an old Cavalier and a Saab. If it is easy to do, does anyone have any photos or instructions about things that maybe obsure about the Delica's braking system? _________________

Could well be worn out pads etc. I took a look at mine recently and thought it would not be long before I will have to replace the pads. When I do, I will use the camera and get some pictures. In the meantime take a look here at the link : http://www.sei-brake.co.jp/mente/index.html
It is a link I found on the Morimori site which might be of some help _________________

you need to take the caliper off to change them, its easy enough to get off all you need is a 17mm spanner or ratchet for the 2 bolts on the rear of the caliper and a 10mm spanner/ratchet to take a bolt off on the top of metal cover over the disc once the caliper is off the pads will push out watch out becausether is a type of springy thing[sorry i don`t know the technical name for it] but its not to hard a job just be careful when taking your wheelnuts off because if you snap any it then becomes a *"^*** of a job |

noticed mine squeaking on the way back from the gym tonight. I have just had the Brake caliper and front pads changed on mine. Caliper was siezed on the front and went through a few sets of pads before deciding to change it ( greased the old one to try saving money, but ended up costing loads in pads !!!!) It is an easy job and doesn't take to long when you have the caliper off. Just hope I don't need a new set of pads again myself, my other half will go mad and blame it on my driving

My front offside wheel was squealing on braking... then occasionally on normal driving, then got worse and worse and finally sounded terrible in reverse. Thought it must be pads, or a stone trapped between backing plate and disc, but it turned out to be the thin metal bracket at the bottom of the brake calipers (inside) which is designed to support cable. This had got knocked and was just touching the disc. Two minutes to bend back by hand.... you don't even need to take the wheel off... and silence for the last three months! _________________ Sam, Black over silver L400 Super Exceed |

Sam G!
I just read your post. That thin metal braket on the brake pad is NOT to hold a cable!!!
That is the tell tale that makes horrible noises (especially in reverse!) to warn you that it is time to replace the brake pads. You can bend it out to stop the noise but please change the pads ASAP. Thin pads are very susceptible to fade in heavy useage.
I too had a horrible rasping noise from the front brakes. Peering throught the front wheels showed the outer pads only 20% worn (after 20,000 km).
Removed right caliper and all was perfect. Removed left caliper and found inner pad worn down to the indicator.
The two pins that retain the caliper were very tight. A little special brake grease on these pins (both sides) allowed the caliper to move again.
Note, this was not the piston sticking in the caliper, but the caliper sticking on the retaining pins, a much easier and cheaper thing to fix. Worth checking first! _________________ Michaelr

Just a further note:
The fist noise I heard from the brake pad wear tell tales was a high pitched whine whilst traveling slowly in reverse. I was so worried I even took it to a trasmission specialist. They were very puzzled. It sounded like a blocked filter, but why only in reverse? Glad I didn't pay for a rebuild! _________________ Michaelr

Thanks for all your help, I have removed the front wheels and the pads look a little on the low side. I think a pad change is in order. If I can i will try and take photos and try and post them on here somewhere.
I will let people know if this was the problem or whether a good clean up may just sort it out. _________________
