If you want to put photo's on a post they have to be hosted on a photo-hosting website. The club website server is unable to host them and obviously the server has no access to those kept on your own computer. So you need to select a photo-hosting website, that allows third party hosting (i.e. lets you put them on other websites) and register a personal account, most are free.
There are restrictions on new members posting links. See:- How long before I can post web links?
Here's the way to do it:-
1. Crop your photos to the relevant area of the photo and resize it to a maximum size of 800x600 pixels, (which is the maximum size allowed on here), anything larger will be converted into a URL link by the Admin or Moderators. In most cases 640x400 pixels or 400x400 pixels will suffice. NB: having small file sizes improves the upload time to your hosting account and the subsequent download time to the website, plus the smaller the file size the greater the amount of images you can store in your account. Most hosting account allow 5Gb of free space.
When you have uploaded them to your account you will see they provide a Hyperlink, starting with www and ending in either JPG, GIF or PNG. Copy that link and paste it into your post adding at the end.
So this link
Code: |
http://www.dwr.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Dukes-Lion-Red-Text.gif |
with the added image codes =
Code: |
|
Gives you this
It is as simple as that.
You can also post pdf files, or links, though you would need to upload them to a different hosting site or a google drive, or a BOX account. The same applies to AVI or MP4 (mpeg) format videos, though you may find they only allow a five minute clip or 100Mb files. Cubeupload only allow the following filetypes, which must be under 5Mb in size:- .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .gif, .pdf, .bmp.
You can get an image resizing program, from Microsoft, that integrates into windows, for free. So you can reduce image sizes prior to uploading to your hosting size. That will speed up the image loading and also reduce the space you use on the hosting server, allowing you to upload more images than normal.
NB: Removing the Exif info from an image will also reduce the file size.
Windows Resizer:-
When downloaded and opened it automatically slides into the system files and is accessed by right clicking on an image, where you will see it listed on the menu. You can use it to resize batches or complete folders of images and also convert them from one format to another.
2. If you want to show an image on your post from another website, right click the image and select 'copy image location'. then past that link into your message.
3. Use the preview button to see what the image looks like before submitting it. as the Tech forums do not allow you to go back in and edit them. If you do then contact a Moderator by PM or press the report button to flag it up, with a message asking for editing assistance.
Alternatively repost the entire post and ask for the first one to be deleted.
I now use a different companies resizer, as I find it more useful, especially when batch converting a few hundred images at a time for use in pdf books:- https://faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm
