Browsing through a few dealers websites I came across one which described the Delicas on his forecourt as "Pajeros with a people carrier body." So are they exactly the same under the skin? Reason I ask is that I seem to see dozens of Pajs around, more than the genuine Shogun in fact, so I would imagine them to be reasonably well-understood and reliable on British roads. Consequently, if they're the same, I'd expect the same to be true of Delicas. However, when I see postings stating that a members car has been in the diesel specialists for 3 weeks and they still can't figure it I begin to wonder. There also seem to be one or two members who are quite keen to slag it off as well. Much as I love the look of it, I'm beginning to wonder if I wouldn't be better off playing safe... :?

The engine is the same and the slush box is the same unit used on v6 shoggys but it's a different chassis.

Hi Andy

Most of the engine parts are the same, can't comment to much as I've never had any trouble with mine Wink

In the past 15 months of ownership I've fitted a steering gator and new brake disks, I've also just fitted new shocks at the front but, the Deli' has covered about 85K miles (23K of that I've done) and used for greenlaning and mildish' off roading Wink also towed a caravan about 2500 miles.

Perhaps i've just been one of the luck ones, although I did pay full price for a quality motor Wink

There have been some unlucky people with there Deli' breaking down Sad but I've had the same with a brand new motor before :?

oh man i wouldn't have anything else!!

we've had minor problems too, batteries, altenator that kind of thing, but you can get that with any car!

like beat, we paid good money for ours, and our dealer is more than happy to deal with any problems we have with it, it recently went in for an oil leak, which turned out to be a cracked washer!

my next car will definately be another Delica!

I've now had both a Pajero and a Delica and I'll take the Delica against the Pajero any day!!!
Much more practical for space and seating but still with the same motor and 4 wheel drive system as the Pajero, even the brakes are the same as a Mk 2.
Carry out some checks on a prospective buy or get someone to check before you buy and it would be no different to any other car that you might want to purchase!!
Plus it will bring a 'Grin' to your face every time you climb up into the cab!!!

Well like pajeropah i too have had a paj and a Delica and would definately take the Delica any day of the week 8)
A few parts are interchangeable esp engine parts ,and also as pjpah says the brakes as well, but as for reliability I've found this more reliable than the 2.5 paj i had b4,just a couple of niggles with the alternator but that was easily sorted,
imho if someone is puttin there motor into a so called diesel specialist and after 3 weeks they still havnt sorted it or know what the problem is then i think they must be cowboys who know nothing about the diesel pumps on these motors ,any specialist worth there weight should be able to sort any problem with a pump regardless of make,if they Can't then they shouldnt be doing the job imho.
