Hi , can any one help?
My Star Wagon super exceed is fine to drive on the open road but during manouvering the steering makes a creaking noise that makes me wince, its been pulling left for a while and now I notice that both rack end boots have split. The wheels appear to shake a bit rather than move smoothly when I towards lock when stationary.

I would really appreciate a diagnosis. Thanks!
Ben.

Hi Swift, welcome to the club (looking at your location - I guess you'll not be attending any of the club meets anytime soon?? Laughing Laughing )

Regarding the steering, without actually getting it checked properly, it is difficult to diagnose exactly what is wrong, but here are a couple of suggestions that you might want to look at:

1) If the noise is a creak rather than a screech, it might well be something like a worn ball joint that is dry or full of grit and moaning under load as the wheel is turned. Other things could include worn anti-roll bar bushes (common on L300's) or worn/loose track-rod ends.

2) If the noise is more of a screech then the problem could be more likened to the power steering unit itself (most commonly a loose or worn belt) I have little knowledge of power steering, but any garage worth its salts will be able to help you out.....

Best of luck sorting it,

Bruce.

Hi,
After 2 years I`m heading back to blighty next month, my Delica will follow so I just might make a meeting someday!

Thanks for your reply. I want to get the parts here but get the work done at home allong with the mot (doesn`t sound D.I.Y.able?), I`m guessing that none of the possible faults you mentioned would become dangerous any time soon?

By the way as we have the same model, can I ask how much they are worth at the mo in England?

Thanks again! Wink
Ben.
