Under the drivers seat i found a small unit stuck to the seat base, its about 4" x 3" there is an aerial plugged into it along with a multiplug containing about 6 wires,I've unplugged the aerial and it doesn't affect the stereo, the wires appear to go into the main loom.
any suggestions ? _________________ If its fun and you enjoy it;eventually they will make it illegal ! |

Could it be a control box for an alarm or central locking maybe? or could it be something like a turbo timer of some description odd place to put it but you never know :? :D Could it be an aerial amplifier or similar if you have the dual radios front and rear?clutching at straws really dusty any chance of a piccy?
could it be a wind detector once detected squirts nice fresh air freshner into the Delica or am i being silly
All the best

Under the drivers seat you say? I think it might be the Japanese to English language translator box for wives and girlfriends. So when she gives instructions they can easily be interpreted by the driver. I believe you can also get them in France in Renaults.
Pull out the big wiring loom that goes into the side of the box and you won't hear a sound ever again from the passenger seat. |

Dean, I wish I had a box under the passenger seat to pull the wires out of. Unfortunately I haven't - is there any other way of stopping the noise? _________________ Pete

Hi .. if your Delica is ex Japan then that box is likely to be a remote starter .. may be combined with a turbo timer.
Cheers from New Zealand |

I've got one of these under the drivers seat in mine. Can only think its either for a mobile phone as I have marks on the dash from a cradle that was in the car before we got it.
Failling that it could be the mounting plate for a CD unit. As one was not fitted to mine but the radio has the option and I can not see anywhere else a unit would fit I can only assume this is what the connector is for. As for what the aerial connection is for if it was a CD Changer can only be associated with what the old Sony units used to do and that was a CD Changer but it used a frequency not disimilar to Radio 2 to play through the radio. _________________ Delica 2.8 TD Automatic Super Exceed

The other possibility... it could be a TV tuner if you car used to have an in-dash TV system...
Basically... no-one knows what it is without some piccys/serial nubmers/makers marks etc :D

And so it came to pass,my little black box shall remain a mystery for the extent of my time on this earth, who knows, i might bury it in the garden and let some poor fellow 200 years from now, spend his entire goverment funded university years examining and diagnosing it. _________________ If its fun and you enjoy it;eventually they will make it illegal ! |
