Thanks Ian, now I've got a real dilema. Do I let someone tinker with it and cause it to go BANG? or do I do nothing and let it go BANG? Catch 22 or what!
You're so right about them being addictive, I've only let the wife drive it twice in the 2 months since we got it. _________________ L400 Super Exceed, green over grey. |

Trev,
I will certainly let you know if I find out what caused the blow up (if it wasn't the incompetence of the garage!!).
Snuck up to the garage and had a look at the Fridge while they were closed, it looks like a bottom end failure as the underside of the engine and chassis is covered in oil, it must have let go at speed as the rear door is also covered in a film of oil drops which must have been caught in the slipstream.
I will push for a full report and post anythin I find out.
Cheers

I get the same noise you are getting. As a new owner I too would like too find out what is causing it. However mine doesn't seem to make it when the engine is in park or neutral. Please will you let me know if you find a solution before I can and I will let you know as and when I get to the bottom of it. :? |

Has anyone investigated the possibility it could be either the alternator or power steering pump that could possibly be causing the rythmic noise? ie when in gear they come under extra load of the engine and could possibly be the internal bearings of either item causing the noise? just a thought as I've heard alternators make some wierd and wonderful noises before now :?

I don't know about the pwr steering pump, but my garage said it wasn't the alternator, aircon compressor etc, as they had used an electronic stethoscope and the noise was internal. I'll just have to wait and see!!
