I've had this twice, and it's not nice.

The first time I was coasting down a steepish track in first gear, 2WD the back axle started leaping around and I picked up speed. Managed to engage 4WD and all was okay - maybe there is a lesson there.

Second time was whilst performing an emergency stop type manouver. It was also a bit lairy.

I've had a peer underneath, and rocking the car with the handbrake on causes the leaves to wind and unwind a bit, not really a big surprise there. Nothing looks out of place. Is this a case of 'they all do that Sir, it's a feature'?

I suppose it happens when the rear wheels lock, so maybe tramping is better than outright locking, at least you know something is amiss.

Andy
