Hello All,
I’ve had quite a terrible day today.
I drove to the UK from Portugal in December of last year. As I was arriving to St Albans where I was offered a spot at a friends house to not have to pay the extortionate ULEZ charges the van began making a loud screeching sound and was having trouble in motion. As soon as I stopped the sound stopped. Initially I thought turbo was giving in. I managed to reach my destination and park the van, after a long while stopped I had some trouble starting her up again but after a good battery charge up and some easy start down the piping she eventually came to life. I went for a few trips, about 100kms each, to test her for noises and problems prior to setting off but nothing manifested. Until today!
As I was making my way to Plymouth to catch the ferry to return to Portugal the van began making awful noises and hiccuped a little, also the wheel lock light came on, so I quickly pulled on to the hard shoulder. My roadside recovery wouldn’t help as I’ve been out of Portugal for over three months. So I decided to slowly ride the hard shoulder until I reached somewhere I think can help, eventually; due to being Sunday and tomorrow is bank holiday. She moved along slowly as though something was stuck, there was a clicking and constant sound happening all the way. I tried engaging the 4WD to see if anything would change but the sounds remained, although the wheel lock light did turn off. It was full of adventures, police included (very nice chaps) but I got there in the end. With family coming to the rescue, it’s been better than it could’ve been, although still mega stressful and worrying.
It definitely sounds like something to do with the front axle. I think it’s the diff but not sure.
My question is, does anyone know of a garage or mechanic in the Basingstoke area that can help?
Any help is very much appreciated. |
