All three other doors lock/unlock okay.
Is it safe to assume the tailgate actuator is knackered or might there be something, somewhere else causing the issue?

Possibly the cable has been damaged, where it passes through to the tailgate.

Check the cable continuity from the tailgate end to the connector which is at the top offside of the body, in a recess.

Hmmm? Had a "spare" actuator from one of my earlier donor cars.
That doesn't work either. Evil or Very Mad

Up at the top right I see all the cables passing from the tailgate into the body through an oval hole.
There doesn't seem to be any wriggle room in the cable to find the connector  Confused

Am I missing something?

The connector for the loom is just forward of the hole in the inner skin.

I had an interesting time when I threaded a cable from the tailgate to the dash, through the flexible tube to hard wire a reversing camera.  I'd had a wireless one on my previous Deli, but got fed up of my monitor picking up and showing video from umpteen security cameras as I passed by.

Ta.
I've got some other work in that area trying to identify the coming and goings of unknown aftermarket wires.
They were obviously fitted in Japan because of the mini "scotch blocks" used.

I would be interested in seeing a photo of them, as I use scotch-blocks in temporary setups.

Well this is turning out to be a bit of a Sherlock Holmes mystery Rolling Eyes
Double checking the wiring diagram I've got a Blue/Black and Blue/Red on the actuator plug, not two Blue/Red
The two run up the tailgate across and directly into the main wiring harness. No connector.
The Blue/Black and Blue/Red, should have gone to the connector with the pair of Blue/Red on the other side.

The next issue is that the actuator plug has four wires going into it. The wiring diagram shows only the two.
The interesting bit is that the MR100562 actuator only has two blades in the socket whilst the MR100563 has all five blades in the socket  Exclamation  Idea
The MR100563 didn't work when I tried it but I see there appears to be a microswitch on the release latch so I'll check that out tomorrow.

The image shows the Jap scotchblock and is what I now know to be where someone took a feed off the reversing lights.
This ended up as a dead end under the carpet Shocked

The take up from the reversing lights is probably an actuator wire that was going for ward to a reversing camera, instead of using a take off point in the loom, under the dash.
