Only been driving 3ltr petrol-1998 L400 a few days.
In mornings-start it up-put in drive-press accellorator pedal-revs-BUT-few seconds delay in moving-THEN-a jolt and it moves.
Happen 1-2 times-THEN-fine.
Looked and searched lots of info-but confused.
Only picked up from dealer other day-Got Warrenty with Centurian-but-thought I would ask first on site to be safe.
Thanks all.

Sounds like it has not built up sufficient pressure for the clutch actuator valve to open. When you rev it, the pressure quickly reaches the required level, the torque converter already has enough speed/ pressure to have drive, so it is effectively droppiing the clutch with revs on. Autos are supposed to take off with the clutch engaged, and as you put your foot on the throttle, the tq takes up the drive. My L300 does it as well if I set off too soon after engaging drive from cold.

Thanks andyman-will compare slight rev start up-with-no rev start up over next few days and see how it goes.
Hope it does not get worse-though not life threatening at moment-lol. But resale concerns warrent that.
P.S-Never does it when stored in new barn-Reversing out-Not in Drive.,,,,,,Barn not heated.

Bit bad yesterday morning.
Did it ruddy twice.
Revved it up before putting in gear.
All dash lights okay.
Put in drive-3-4 second delay-then-jolt.
A few yards-2-3 second delay-then-jolt.
Then perfect.
When parked in Barn-I reverse out-never does it ?.
Get the idea of where your coming from regards fault-just-concerned about bill.
Know warrenty will not cover-they will definatly put it down to age.
Will phone dealer in Stockport tommorow-but they will just say-most likely-"it never happened with us"-funny that.

Might be worth  dropping and replacing as much A/T fluid as you can, if not absolutely clean. Muck/sludge could be causing valves to stick. Make sure you use the right type of fluid (lots of info on other threads here). All the best for a Happy New Year.

Found this thread when searching for a similar problem to the original post (V6 petrol, 1997 L400) - after starting the engine and putting in drive I had a slight delay while revving then a jolt as the gear seemed to engage. Although I'd checked the ATF level and it looked fine, someone told me I needed to check the level with the engine running and the gearstick in P. When I did that, it was obviously low. Topped up with new ATF and its been fine since.
