Hi guys!
I'm glad to see that this forum is still alive, and full of helpful stuff. I've been on the hunt for a decent L400 for a few years, and would like to ask for advice on one that's being sold on the group's FB. 5.5k in Barnsley, P264 FTT, apparently a '97 import with ~140k which must be a mix of miles and km. (Sorry, can't post link because I'm new)
There's nothing obviously wrong that I can spot from the pictures - on another picture I was sent there's some rot on the back of the left hand side sill, and the sliding door's bottom edge above it. Otherwise, there are plenty of pictures inside/outside/underneath and that seems acceptable for a 27 year old thing.
Is that a fair price if truly everything else works? I'm going in with a worst case scenario and assuming all maintenance bits (timing, fluids, everything) should be changed quite soon. Are there glaring faults or dealbreakers I should be looking out for? I've been reading around on this (and other) forums for some general buying advice but I'm obviously a newcomer to these vans so I'd appreciate some pointers.
It's a 3 hour drive for me so if there's anything anyone can spot from the pictures or MOT history that's a huge red flag, let me know. Otherwise I might give it a try, and if the mechanical bits all do their part okay then I might go with this.
On that note, anything important I can try on a test drive (gearbox smooth enough, 4WD works, engine is healthy) or any other spots underneath that I should 100% check for any rust or worrying signs?
Cheers,
Steve |

Thanks Lewis! Read through those, quite useful especially the 4WD operation - that'll come in handy for testing.
If you can find it, do you reckon the car in question is worth the asking price? I know that's near impossible to tell from pictures but..roughly? |
