better to treat or remove sunroof?

I took mine off, treated it for rust, resprayed it and refitted it.

If you do the same do not lose the shims (item 3 below), which are on each of the four fitting bolts. Make sure you put them back in the same place to have it fit properly when it closes.

Never used mine as had to stop to either open or close it.
When the rust bug got in I had the sunroof removed, the rust eradicated and the sunroof replaced as a fixed unit.

I guess it's a balance between how much you want a manual, two handed sunroof that you have to stop for to operate, and how difficult it will be to sort out the rust. Ideally, you need to get rid of the rust anyway, and any leaks.

I didn't use mine once on my recent, very warm trip to Wales. I reckon the heat gained from pulling the sun blind back would exceed the cooling effect! Just wound the front windows down an inch or two behind the wind deflectors, and opened the two rear windows to get a though-draught. But there's no rust around it, and it's not leaking. Last time I used it, I cleaned the seal, then smeared some grease around it before shutting it.

Mine had been firmly tapped shut. I bought all the motors etc to fix it as I wanted to originally. but then I saw the rust a thought better of it. It leaks a lot too. need to seal it at some point but for now its got LOTS of tape on the roof!
