Hi all, my rack was leaking rather a large amount of fluid, least the underneath won't rust for a while. Anyway I was looking on club for suggestions, losing too much fluid to try quick fix steering fluid and as an ex toyota tech new seals were no doubt main dealer, so I was digging through a few contacts and found a company in wolverhampton called jaygee hydraulic services. They do a seal kit for the Deli and costs a little over £43 inc delivery, a couple of hours to strip the rack check for major wear and damage and rebuild with all new seals and low and behold its fixed.. Happy days. Just thaught I'd put this on so people don't have to go main dealer or buy an expencive exchange unit. Cheers all James

Cheers. My rack has just emptied itself also. Now sounds like a bus to drive !

Found the company you have listed - I'm just thinking maybe would be better to get a total recon unit as I had an advisory for some play in it on the last MOT even before the leak

There's also a bearing required that wears along with the seals, and if the rack main shaft is pitted they usually are the new seal won't last long either, so your original rack needs checking before a decision is made

Cheers, When you say bearing, do you mean the 1 on the inner tie rod ?
I've priced up renewing both seals and both tie rods for about £70 but now also considering getting my rack reconditioned for £200.

I've had a quick look on the forum for removing the steering rack but Can't find anything. ?? It would be better to do this I reckon as I'm planning to keep the vehicle a while

Must appologise been working and just looked, the play in the rack can be adjusted out using the rather large bolt with allen key head that's directly opposit the input shaft. Its a bit of a pain to do as I had to adjust the internal play on mine after rebuild. Similar to adjustng a steering box. My bearing and shaft were in spot on condition so didn't change.

I did see that allen key bolt but didn't have a clue that it was for that.
After a bit of thinking I decided to send mine off to Driveshaft Uk for a full overhaul. After pricing up what parts I knew I needed and getting their quote I thought it was the best thing to do at the time as they refurb and test it without having to put the rack back in and then finding out you have a leak.

I had an absolute nightmare getting the rack out - more down to the 2 x 17mm nuts holding the fluid pipes to the steering box and also getting the clamp off the bottom spline from the shaft from the steering wheel shaft that connects to the steering box thing. There is hardly any space to get even a stubby spanner on the pipes and even if you do manage you then don't have the leverage so I ended up removing the large 24mm nut ( cap thing ) from the bottom of this - then another nut that seems to hold a bearing and knocking the whole shaft up.
1 major thing I have done is to cut through one of the fluid pipes that lies horizontally along the steering rack.
I have an old truck and it dosnt look like its ever been off and every nut bolt is severely aged on, also having no room for spanners it seemed the only thing possible to do.
When I get the rack back I'm planning to 1st try and fix it together with some 8mm Id pipe and decent jubilee clips and maybe some sort of sealant .
Lots of people probably laughing now but will post back if it works or not.!!!
I Can't see why not as the pipe next to it is attached also by some tube.
Lets see what Happens !!!

From My previous post the answer I've now found from cutting 1 of the power steering pipes is def not to do it ! I thought that it would be okay to do as the pipe next to it is attatched to a rubber pipe with a simple clamp.
The pipe I cut is under A lot more pressure as I found when I tried to join the 2 with some 8 mm fuel pipe.
When I started to bleed it there was a hissing sound and a pop and Power steering fluid over the drive where it had popped !
Had to order a new pipe from the local mitsi dealer for £50 and 2 weeks wait.
The easy answer I've now found to getting the pipe off is to disconnect it at the power steering pump and feed the whole lot through.
Thats what you get for working all night and then trying to remove your steering rack the next day ! They say you Can't buy experience but I've paid to learn this !
1 interesting thing I found out in the dealers was that they has a couple of milners parcels in there. I asked If they used them and the parts guy said yes but only for certain things !
I wonder how much they charge extra to the customer !

Seems a bit cheeky to me. When you go to the main dealer and pay the extra price you expect genuine parts. I wonder if the customer gets told what there getting. I only go to them for the specialist bits that youre never gonna get anywhere else. I didn't even know they were allowed to do that....??

I need a new set of seals for my steering rack. Jaygee (as listed above) appears to have died so does anyone know of any other suppliers ?
