|
|
Hi all,
I've just noticed that the oil check light on the dashboard is not coming on when I turn the ignition on when the engine is cold. It usually comes on along with the battery, handbrake and glow plug coil light but not anymore. I did think it was perhaps just the bulb but the light does appear to come on if the engine is warm. The light is not on when the engine is running and the oil level is fine with no signs of leaking.
I guess the light is affected by the oil pressure but seeing as the light isn't on when the engine is running I assume there's no problems there but please do correct me if I'm wrong!
Is this an indication of a problem or just an electrical fault?
Cheers!

AWG81 I'm interested that you have a glow plug light! Does yours, Ian? (Sorry I can't help on the oil light unless, like my A/T temp light, you have a poor connection.) My A/T temp light comes on within 20 seconds of starting the engine on most days, so can't be overheating that quickly, plus the gearbox never misbehaves, and the ATF is clear pink, and doesn't smell bad.) _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Thanks all. Yes, it's an L300 - I do remember having that issue with my old L400 though. I guess the L300 has an oil pressure switch I can check though?
Andyman - yes, the glow plug light works! It comes on for a few seconds and then goes off as it should. The timing doesn't match the clicking of the relay though so I just go on that anyway.
It's due an oil and filter change so I'll do that and see how it is after that...
Cheers! |

Oil pressure switch is on the R/H side of the block, above the filter. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

I don’t appear to have a glow plug light, I just switch on and wait until I hear the first click and then start up.
Works every time.
Have looked at the dash and cannot see anything that looks like a glow plug warning lamp. _________________ Ian.

Andrew.
More than likely it's the pressure switch, but, as Lewis sez "Check the connector & wiring to it"

Agree with Deker here.
I just replaced mine trying to chase down an oil leak...
Before it had always done as you describe. Off when cold, and responding normally once hot.
Now it responds instantly pretty much, even when cranking..!
I was always fairly sure it would work properly if needed, but having changed it, I'm a lot happier
Wasn't expensive, but I did have to buy a 27mm deep hex socket, there's no room to swing a spanner.
Best of luck... _________________ 91 L300 Super Exceed (well it did once...) |

Great, thanks Deker and ClockworkOwl, I'll check out the oil pressure switch at the weekend.
Andyman and Fostlongstrider - you mean you have no glow plug light at all? I'll send a photo of mine! |

No, no glow plug light at all, never have had. The manual shows several instrument panel arrangements, some don't have a glow plug light. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |
