Having some trouble with my temperature guage. the guage is not working. I've replaced the sensor and it hasn't solved the problem. Tested the sensor with a multimeter and its going up and down dramatically. Would this have anything to do with the glow plug relay. I think she's overheating so can't be driving around with the guage not working if anyone can help me out |

The glow plug relay is controlled by a feed from the coolant temperature sensor.
When the coolant reaches a certain temperature it isolates the glow plugs.
My gauge just goes above the low mark when up to normal running temperature.
It only goes higher, half way or so, when going up long hills but drops quickly when back on the flat.
It could be a faulty gauge. _________________ Ian.

I don't think it's the guage. everything else on the guage is working fine. Why would the voltage be shooting up and down when I test the sensor with the multimeter. I've tried three sensors and still nothing. Maybe a wire is damaged somewhere. ?? |

As you say there could be a broken wire just making contact now and again.
However if this was the case the gauge would move up and down.
You should be able to short out the sensor to earth and the gauge should then move up and down.
Has your sensor got one or two terminals?
If the meter is making good contact with the sensor the voltage should be stable.
Does the voltage vary with the engine stopped or running? _________________ Ian.

okay so I think I've narrowed it down. I ran a wire from the temp sensor to the engine block and turned on ignition but not the engine and the temp guage went up. So the problem is not the guage or wiring. I've checked online and theres a few other people have had the same problems were the relays are clicking like mad and the guage isn't working. It seems to have something to do with the ecu. Is there anyway of checking the ecu. ?? Or can I just replace it ? |

okay so problem solved it ended up being the temperature sensor. I bought one from ebay which was a dud the seller gave me another one which was also a dud. This is why I thought it wasn't the sensor and maybe something else. Anyway I bought a blueprint temp sensor and now alls well. The temp guage is working. Moral of the story don't buy cheap crap from ebay 😆 |

Exactly.
Some times you only get what you pay for.
Glad to hear you’ve fixed the problem.
