|
|
Last week, with friend, camping at Coniston Hall, in The Lakes then to my friends daughters residence in Glasgow.
my friend has never seen mountain type scenery, she was impressed and overwhelmed.
First day, I drove the Wrynose and Honister pass (which I now find easy, motorcycle or car) on to Ravenglass.
at Ravenglass railway station car park, Pullman style railcars can be seen.
My friends name is Elmira, a Pullman style railcar by same name is parked in the sidings, she was impressed
Next day, Honister Pass, it is spectacular (have driven this pass a couple of years back, in a Delica group,
but our leader was going too fast, I could not get time to digest the mountain scenery) now, in my own time - to appreciate
the grandeur of the mountains.
Then on to Scotland, to stay a few days at aforesaid house.
On way back to the South, diverted to The Lakes - Just had to see The Honister Pass again
Stopped on the A591 for lunch, at one end of Bassenthwaite Lake, looking across to the A66, wonderful view of the mountains.
Then to Canal garage, topped fuel tank headed home - NOW the good bit - So far 375 miles on a full tank, and still some to go
Haven't done the MPG calculation yet, need to top up tank.

Filled up at home, from Canal Garage, took 59.28 litres, 386 miles = 29.6 MPG.S1 L400. - - - Only cost £115.54p
Filled with camping gear, cooler box, food/drink, passenger.
My total trip = over 1,100 miles.
Good fuel price at Canal Garage on A65 off J36 M6. Good user friendly stopping place.

Don’t think £1.94 is a good fuel price!
£1.86 round our way!
£5.28 cheaper. _________________ Ian.

Thank you Ian - Silly question = What would it cost me to go to Hull from the M6 and back to M6 ?
Not much choice, eh. I thought Motorway fuel shops are a bit pricey @ £2.05 per litre (for Diesel)
The Canal garage must be good, always loads O trucks N heavies there.

Not saying that,it’s probably the best price in the area, just that as usual the fuel companies are ripping the motorist off.
Especially after BP announced record profits again!!
Now £1.84 at Asda here!

Tip:
When heding into or returning from Scotland on the M6, plan of refueling at the ASDA supemarket station, just of the A689, onthe west side of Junction 44.
It's one of, if not the cheapest place in the area. _________________

Lewis, thanks for that, J44 = Carlisle.
However, Canal garage does offer loads O parking space.
So does the road, with a pleasant country road parking bay leading to the fuel shop, from the M6.
Or vehicle driver/passengers can go 5 miles East (A65) to Kirkby Lonsdale/Devils Bridge.
Nice place to stop, kiddies can play in the shallow part of the river.
More ambitious folks with diving gear can explore deeper water. As you know.
Funny story: About 26 years back, motorcycling, went with friend (P) to Devils Bridge, he had heard about the Bridge and the water.
He had heard that people jump off the bridge into he water below (I should add, friend is a keen biker and water lover).
He was keen to jump off the bridge. It had been a dry summer, so P checked the water level from the bank.
He decided that the water level was too low to jump off the bridge -
SO, he changed his mind, and got one where the bit about "Self Preservation" worked.
