I've been having trouble with the horn switch in the steering wheel. Most of the time, it doesn't work at all unless you find the tiny sweet spot, and even then it's somewhat weak sounding and intermittent. But a couple of times, the horn has started sounding constantly when I haven't even pressed it and I've had to remove the relay to stop it. My guess is that there's a little piece of metal that rattles around inside the wheel and occasionally falls between the contacts.
But anyway, I disconnected the horn switch and temporarily installed a door bell push, which was an instant 100% improvement. So now I'm trying to decide on what the permanent fix should be. The wheel centre is one piece with the horn switch and airbag riveted together and there doesn't seem to be any way to dismantle it or separate them without destroying it. My options are...
a) Buy new Delica airbag/horn switch. Expensive, maybe hard to get or need ordering from Japan.
b) Buy breaker airbag/horn switch. Maybe hard to find, maybe no better than what I have.
c) Replace wheel/airbag/horn switch with one from a more common Mitsubishi (Shogun?/L200?). Don't know which are compatible, maybe a can of worms if other parts like clockspring needed.
d) Disconnect the OEM switch and wire horn to a small push button on the dash or column or side of the wheel, cheapest but maybe a bit of a bodge.
Opinions? I'm currently leaning towards option d if I can find a nice quality button and a good place to install it. |

I vaguely remember having a similar issue many years back, but didn't take photos at the time. The bolts to undo are at the back of the wheel, facing the dash.
When I eventually got inside it turned out to be a degraded section of plastic film, that was acting as insulation. I replaced that with cut to shape thin rubber mousemat, after removing the neoprene backing.
