V6 24 valve 2002 Super Exceed.
Am keen to get transmission fluid replaced - have purchased Miller's Millermatic SP III WS from Opieoils.
I'd prefer to do a proper job and clean out sump tray, magnets and replace filter....but I cannot find
any info on the relevant filter.
The epc-data diagrams ( my usual Bible for part refs) shows sump, drain plug , gasket sealant etc but no filter.
Have I got one?? I rather not take sump off to check and then be left without a runner while I source one.
The drain plug is on the off-side side of the sump rather than being underneath and has the exhaust cross-piece sitting under it..
Any info on the filter ref would be appreciated. I can do a drain /refil and repeat as a second best option, but I'm aware there's countless other threads of pros and cons of that.

Graham

Sorted....looked again on mitsubishi dot epc-data dot com
and did a proper look this time.
A/t filter is shown under the a/t valve body section
and part number is......MR528836

,...so next hurdle will be getting sump pan off.
All part of the fun.

Are these not a metal mesh filter, so theoretically cleanable, ie not necessary to replace? (Although I know people do).

Not sure. The only way to be certain will be once I've taken pan off.
In the meantime i have gone ahead and done a drain, replace and repeat of the fluid as the oil was in need of changing and i had a brief opportunity to do it.
I've ordered a filter based on part number (not a Mitz original unfortunately) . I'll see what arrives.
I need to build my scaffold plank ramps a little higher to get better access to the exhaust bolts.

Correct on that Andy.

They are classed as a none user servicable item, for replacement in transmissions that have been refurbished, just like the plastic mesh filter in the fuel tank.

The filters fit the following Transmissions:-

R4A51
R5A51
V4A51
V5A51

Mitsu sell them as a filter only unit, but you also require a replacement gasket for the sump, which is included in the service gasket kit MR325218. Some aftermarket sellers include a gasket, though you need to ensure it is the correct shaped one, as the same filter is used in several other transmissions, for different vehicles.

Only just seen this conversation.

I bought a filter for the gearbox on this model from Milners. They had to check carefully that they supplied the correct one for the vehicle. It was plastic and not all that expensive. It is sometimes worth calling Milners and asking about parts which aren't always shown on their website catalogue. When I bought a transmission filter for my older diesel, it was metal and came from Mitsubishi (at a higher price). The gearbox specialists who did my fluid change opted not to replace the filter because of the extra work involved with dismantling the front exhaust sections. One of any number of disadvantages with the newer petrol model.....but low mileage diesel L400's in good condition are rather rare these days.
