I should have made it clearer above, it’s the cam BELT cover, at the front of each bank which is distinctly wider on a twin cam. The cam cover should also be wider, especially if the plugs are located between the cams. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Milners obtained all these parts for me in June, genuine Mitsubishi, at prices approximately 40% less than OEM. The order period was four to six weeks.
I opted for an aftermarket Water Pump (less than half the price of Mitsubishi).
The job was listed in a trade workshop bible as four hours, my engine specialist allowed himself five hours. SVS know their stuff, worth paying for their expertise and experience, if you are fortunate enough to be in that neck of the woods.
So, in answer to the original question I paid around £250 for all the parts and £250 for labour....this includes vat and allows for the cheaper water pump.
I had the spark plugs replaced while things were a bit more accessible (another £75 plus and hour-or-so labour, would otherwise take two hrs). |

Going back to your original post at the start of this thread, did you have any luck finding a workshop manual for the 6G72 engine?
I tried a Repairbooks download which was a paid for product but have not found anything specific to the V6 engines in it. I'm currently seeing if they can help with this.
I've also ordered a Haynes manual for the Shogun/Pajero '83-'97 which supposedly covers the engine in question and will update when it arrives.
Anyone else had any joy with such a search? |

Sorry to say that didn't succeed with tracking down a Workshop Manual for this engine. Maybe you will have better luck.
I find this-n-that in the old Haynes Pajero Manual, but it does cover rather a wide range of model variants.
When I had the CamBelt job done by guys who knew their stuff, but had not worked on this particular engine, I left the Delica Edition of Pocket Mechanic by Peter Russek discretely in the box with the new parts, and they were gracious enough to say that it had come in useful.
The most reassuring aspect of it in my case was that reminder markings of exact positions for items to be removed had been left by whoever did the job previously (in Japan). I'm told this is a good sign of a diligent mechanic.
And the date/mileage of the previous cambelt change was noted on the cover (in Japanese). Mine had done the 7 years (recommended interval), but nothing like the 100,000 km. I decided better safe than sorry. Everything which came out looked good enough to my (unskilled) eye, but you never know. |

Therte are two 6G7 series manuals, for pre and post 2002 engines.
Assuming you want the post 2002 manual, then this may be what you are after:-

The link to the PDF you've supplied is the most useful and relevant I've seen so far Lewis, thanks.
The Haynes manual I ordered turned up yesterday but unfortunately doesn't cover the engine in my '97 wagon. For reference, the manual is titled: Mitsubishi Pajero 1983-1997 (68765) and appears to refer to previous versions of the 6G72. There's not enough exact detail for me to feel confident in tackling the job I've got to do.
I'm thinking this is one for Mark at SVS! |
