Front CV joint.  Any experience of Milners ones.  I have heard dodgy reports of Milners bottom ball joints....

Not many CV / drive shaft threads on this forum so resurrecting this one.

How does one disassemble the longer slender part of the driveshaft from the outboard CV joint?

Hoping to save the CV joint by cleaning and regreasing plus a new boot.  It would be easier to clean it with the two shafts separated.

They are held in place by a circlip, at the end of the shaft.

The outer part has a large ring fitted inside a groove retaining the CV joint in the housing.
A thin flat blade screwdriver is useful for levering it out.

NB: ensure you keep the large ball bearings in the same cups.

Ah yes good stuff but I have worked that one out.  I'm calling that one inboard and I'm questioning how to remove the same (longer) shaft from the outboard CV.  I assume it must be possible because you can buy just the outboard (fat stubby) shaft with the CV on it:

Cheers!

Same method.
Note bottom photo and imagine the splined end on the opposite end, instead of the flange.

I bought one of the Milner units years ago to replace a trashed unit.  Crying or Very sad

The CV joint nearest the wheel is held in place with a snap ring; hold the drive shaft securely in a bench vice and then give the CV joint body a good solid whack with a copper hammer or such and it will pop off the shaft.

It certainly did require a strong whack as you say Andy W.  I have reused the snap ring as it seems fine, time will tell.  Thanks all for the help.
