Hi,

For ever and a day I have had poor FM reception when I get out of town; I am wondering if anyone knows why, could it be the aerial/cable is goosed and needs replacing - I have heard others complain of the same thing. Looking into FM signal amplifiers I am struggling to find one with good reviews, the majority seem to make no difference.

Any thoughts?

Cheers, Andy

My radio reception is poor too, I can’t get clear local stations but I can get perfect radio cymru which is miles away. Confused

My rear passenger window, the one next to the tailgate, has an aerial in the glass, looks like a demister element.

I was going to try and boost my reception by linking into it but apparently it is only for use in Japan, and I don’t fancy listening to radio wuhan.  Rolling Eyes

Might be a silly suggestion: Does the radio have a good Earth connection  Question

Only other thought = Co-Axial cable twixt Antennae & radio is damaged,
how to access the cable = No idea  Rolling Eyes

Are we talking OEM radio or after market? OEM ones are useless in the UK - can only find Radio 2 and other stations close to it. I've fitted a Sony head unit and a DAB antenna. Everything comes through loud and clear.

This is an aftermarket one, in and around suburbia it's good but in rural areas it's bad. In the same rural areas in my car the reception never deteriorates.

I bought a windscreen mounted unit that is composed of a thin clear adhesive film, with the antennae inside. it has a signal amplifier section, that went below the dash, with a 12v feed. I came complete with cables which plugs into the head unit.

I can’t find the same one, but eBay item 293782400912 is very similar.

I fitted mine up the left side of the screen, as it was easier to take out the glove box for access, with loads of space above the airbox to fit things, then reach behind the head unit to plug it in.  Smile

Cheers Lewis, is it as good as a normal antenna, and the reception is good out of town as well?

Suited me okay when it was in use.
Though my preference is to use A micro SD card in mine, playing the music I like, with out adverts and a radio presenter talking drivel.

I have a windscreen powered antenna fitted to the top centre of the windscreen.
Wires run round the windscreen under the rubber to the near side, then behind the glove box to the unit.
Powered from the unit supply and works fine.

WOW! You have a powered windscreen, Ian? Wish I had that option on my L300! Laughing (My DAB antenna is stuck to the front of my very manual sunroof.)
