Hi All,
I have a strange one for you.
Yesterday, when I got home form work, I parked the van, turned off the ignition, and came inside, leaving the turbo-timer to do it's thing and turn off the engine in 30 sec.
About an hour later my son came in tot ell me the van lights were still on (I keep them in the Auto setting).
When I went to have a look, sure enough, the parking lights were on. The switch was still set to Auto. When I opened the driver's door, I got a loud continuous Beeeeeeep sound - but that stopped when I put the key in the ignition (replaced by the annoying beep beep beep sound of key in ignition and driver's door open). Most likely the Lights On warning.
I tried starting the van, and it fired up okay. I then turned it off, and shut down the Turbo Timer, and the parking lights stayed on.
I tried various positions for the light switch, but wit no effect.
Finally I had to disconnect the battery till I figure this out.
Any ideas?
I have checked the turbo timer and it all looks okay.
Cheers,

Do you have a switch fitted to the right of the steering wheel, which a previous owner would have had factory fitted for operating the optional upgrade Daytime Running lights (DRL's)?
If so and this has been knocked on then it would turn the sidelights on as well, even if the DRL's have been removed.

No such switch.
Only have a switch for the fog lights. _________________ The Pirate Bus

What you call fog lights are what Mitsubishi call DRL's. _________________

The fog lights have been disconnected for about five years.
They were actual fog lights - even yellow.
They only came on (when switched on) on low beam. They would switch off when high beam was activated.
But - I will check the switch - just in case...
Thanks for the advice. _________________ The Pirate Bus

Are you allowed a run on timer in Aus.
They are illegal in UK as you are not legally allowed to leave the engine running if the car is parked and not attended. _________________ Ian.

I think the same applies here. But I generally only leave the timer on for 30 secs, and I take that long to get out of the van, collect my gear and lock it. Then I just wait outside the door until the engine stops. _________________ The Pirate Bus

Mine has a turbo timer on it from the previous owner. It randomly sets itself from time to time, and I have to switch it off, but I've never bothered to disconnect it for fear of messing up the wiring. As it is, the ignition lock and key are so worn, I can simply withdraw the key and lock the doors without turning off the engine (not that I do!) I assume the turbo timer has never misbehaved for the MoT test! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

They are just connected to other cables, without replacing any, so - if it's like the one that came on mine - are easy to disconnect and remove. _________________
