|
|
Hey all,
I've noticed that the sump (transmission sump or engine sump?) under my Delii perhaps has a small leak from somewhere. In the picture below am I looking at the transmission sump?
It has oil or AT fluid on the outside and also on the small pipe that connects to it. I can't tell if it is oil or AT as it has already 'burnt' and is very viscous now. Wiping it off there are some small areas of pink so could be AT but not sure. Looking at the oil dipstick it is not losing oil. Looking at AT dipstick it has perhaps been overfilled with AT - could this cause a small leak? There are never any drips on the ground - just the coating on the sump.
Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks,

Is it dripping onto the floor or just wet to look at? _________________

He says there's never any drips on the ground. I'd suggest completely cleaning off the sump to then see where any new oil is coming from. If it's clean oil, you'll be able to tell what colour it is. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

That's my general principle with oil leaks, unless accompanied by more sinister symptoms. Deli has had damp blackness on back of engine since day one, 11 years ago. If I ever need to lift the cam cover, I'll deal with it then! As it still uses less than 1/2L between oil changes, it's the least of my problems. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Thanks all for the replies. I cleaned off the sump after I posted and after only a few days the oil is back again - looks again like my original picture. For sure now it is engine oil. Monitoring the levels it does seem to be losing but still not enough to drip on the ground

Looks like it is coming from higher up......what is the small black pipe that comes into the sump (in my original photo), as it seems to be dripping down along that. Are there any obvious places to look higher up? _________________ I'm a Delica newbie - please bear with me ;) |

Hmm.. Good question. Let's see..
What is long and thin enough to fit into a long thin tube that goes into an oil sump; Possibly a tube that comes in two halves, from the top of the engine and joined together using a small 'O' ring as a seal..... _________________

okay I can check that seal but seems unlikely as a source for a leak no? _________________ I'm a Delica newbie - please bear with me ;) |
