Before I put the key in the ignition, I would expect everything on the dash to be off but the fuel gauge reads the level all the time. Key or no key it seems to be powered. Is this normal? |

Yes! The indicator stays at the last position it was at when the ignition is turned off.
There was a post somewhere about changing something on the back of the dash, which would let the needle fall to zero, when the ignition was turned off.
That was so no thieving git could tell how much fuel was in the tank.
It may have been on the Aussie club site, but it was several years ago.
If memory serves me right it was something to do with interupting the circuit line to the guage and fitting a switch that could be flipped off when parked up.
Personally I thought that putting something on the dash, like a spectacles case, to cover the fuel guage, was easier. _________________

That's fine then, I'm not looking to mess around with it unnecessarily. Is it a mechanical thing rather than being powered?.. I'll find out next time I disconnect the battery.
Can't say I'm worried about diesel theft but I was concerned there was a short, maybe drain on the battery etc etc.
Thanks for the info! |
