|
|
my original L400 has been on the drive for six months. it gets turned over once a month. sods law. arranged to take it for MOT and it would not start (turned over etc okay) easy start worked but no fuel delivered ...
in fact initially it started, wouldn't accelerate and then petered out (presumably using the fuel already in situ)
my questions would be (insofar as anyone could say)
1. is it the fuel pump ? (presumably)
2. any idea what the problem might be ?
3. how big a deal is it to fix ?
4. is it a repair or replace ?
5. any other aspects to consider ? _________________ 2.8 1994 L400 LWB blue/grey Super Exceed

If it was me - I would change the fuel filter and top the tank with fresh fuel.
Make sure the battery is strong and take it from there. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Yosa = Good suggestion
Or - Hopefully, the fuel filter primer pump head. Diaphragm gone hard, and the non return valve distorted.
I had to replace the fuel filter head on my L400 recently. For reasons stated.

Any or all the above. Start with easiest/cheapest first (ie top up with diesel, use filter primer to prime the pump and try again, loosen Injector unions to see if fuel is getting through, change filter if no. I would even go as far as making up a small gravity tank (milk bottle of diesel) direct into the back of the pump. Assuming it then starts and runs, you know it ISN'T the injector pump (seal). Oh, and hopefully your fuel stop solenoid valve hasn't suddenly failed after you started it. PS If fuel isn't getting through, you won't be getting any diesel fumes out of the exhaust when you crank it. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |
