Anyone done a refurb on their wheels?  Mine are the polished alloy type, well used to be but are now looking pitted and tired. I tried a rub down with some wet and dry this afternoon on a spoke and it came up quite well - finished off with a quick polish with Autosol. Now it’ll take quite some effort to do the whole wheel (x4) so will it need a clear coat of lacquer or will regular polish keep them tidy if I decide to take the job on?  Or is it better to get a mobile refurber to do it?

fintious.

If you got the time, wheel re-furb, DIY. I'm not sure if the professional wheel re-furbers lapply lacquer. That you need to check.
MUST be lacquered outside, and paint or lacquer inside.

My suggestion is paint inside Grey, not Black (just my opinion) Inside has to be painted first.

That is how I did my wheels.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I was hoping to just do the polished spokes as the greyish insets are actually in good nick. I think I’ll buy a sander machine and get on with it and see how it turns out. I’ll start with the spare

I found it easier to do them with small flap wheels and a battery powered drill.

These are what I used back in 2015.

The surface is still smooth, even after a few years, though the tyres had to be replaced.  Very Happy

80 grit, then polished up with the two mops.
The mops don't have a grit type number on them.

Those types of Mops are grade colour coded.
Brown = Course
Blue = Medium
Red/Burgundy = Fine

Sorry, I was referring to the Mops, not the flap wheels.

Couldn't find a picture of the 3M ones that are brown, blue, burgundy, those are dodgy copies! But you get the idea.  Smile
