Hi, I've just got a Space Gear and I was hoping I can afford to get a bull bar built for the front with risers up the front window columns onto a full roof rack then maybe back down the rear to a rear guard. I know nothing of the appropriate (or even possible) anchor points.

The roof rack to hold a tent one day. Before I get a tent the roof rack will be a decking so I can sit up there in my chair admiring peaceful country views.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this or am I being far too hopeful. I was hoping for around £600 to max 1k I could get a shop specialising in roll cages to bend up and fit some 2" tubes in a day!

Not sure how the law applies to custom bull-bars on a vehicle originally fitted with factory ones. Do you not have the original bars? At least they would have the right brackets and chassis mounting points.

Salted.

Grab hold of the bull bars, give a good tug "Back & Forth" see how flexible they are Shocked

I am not sure if the mounting points, that are under the chassis could take the strain of long extension/s.

Mine is a 2001 Space Gear and it just got plastic at the front and a simple bar at the back.

Then I think it would be illegal to fit bull-bars to it. I have 2.2m x 1.2M flat roof rack which fits on three roof bars. The outer frame is made from 20mm square tube, with 10 welded in cross-bars, 20mm dia. and a central longitudinal support flat bar. It also has roping hooks. I have toyed with the idea of fitting a plywood base or a roof tent, but the prohibitive cost of these means I haven't.
PS I assume you live NEAR Stonehenge?

Yeah, sadly I don't live in the middle of the Stones!

I need to calm down my mental image of how I'd love my van to look. I have some crazy Mad Max type imagery LOL.

Realistically I think a simple roof rack would be the best option. I think a 2.2m like yours would be great.

I've seen a matt black Defender 110 in Kendal with a full outside cage. A bit OTT to my mind, but we all have different tastes. Dunno what it does to the aerodynamics and fuel consumption.

Yeah, without doubt the full external cage is OTT. I'd probably best be looking at something like "Expedition Aluminium Full Basket Roof Rack" from Direct 4x4 at around £550.

I can't link or put up pics yet ;(

If you can wait, come up to the Adventure Overland Show in the Spring and have a look at all the different expedition vehicles to get some ideas and contacts of people who make these.

Oh Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse is where I will be visiting, thanks!

Even if I've already found a solution it looks a great weekend out.

The bullbar on the Series 1 is part of the vehicle as it has the front towing rings.
With yours being a series 2, with no External Bullbar, the front towing rings are welded to the chassis roughly in line where the side securing bolt of the Bullbar would fit.

Other than the front end bodywork changes the Series 1 and Series 2 are identical, so the only support you have for a roof rack is the actual roof gutter.

A roof tent, with a proper supporting rack can be fitted.

Direct 4x4 manufacture a rack speciffically for the Deli for about £400.

There are several varieties of tent available.

Hi Lewis, thanks for that info and the pictures. I'm not totally sure if I will go for the RT or have the roof rack as storage and make a bed in the body. Both have pros and cons.

I do agree with the video where they say the hard top RT has the advantage of being up and ready in 20 seconds. I like that. Thank you for that YouTube link I am subscribed to them.

Yeah, wonderful site you have here and gosh I can see you are a Deli Guru.
