It would not be possible to gauge the number of Delicas based on members on this site; many who contribute here are not members, and many registered on here may no longer have a Delica, and some, like you, Steve, have 2 or more! |
hi Andy
I wasn't thinking of guessing or extrapolating, unless there is a specific data mining process that might apply ... rather establishing a data base of uk registered vehicles
by reg number or vin or whatever
it would be interesting to know where the unregistered ones are too, for breaker / spares
just thinking out loud |
I wholeheartedly agree, Steve, especially as Delicas are now so thin on the ground. If there was an accessible record of members, brief description of vehicle (eg mine is a 1991, P35W) post town (eg Penrith), and we would have a better idea of who lives locally, providing better local support, possibly encouraging/helping them to be kept in running order, and providing an opportunity for them to be saved for spares, or even put back on the road. I have found 2 L300s in scrapyards over recent years which were too good to scrap. Perhaps also a dedicated section for scrappers, with similar information, or ones that have been located in scrapyards. Many appear on the FB forum, but the nature of FB is that they are ephemeral posts, and not so easy to search for. This Spare Parts section is far less used. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

To do that you would be recording personal data on a database, so you would need to register with the UK Data commissioner and register under the EU GDPR regulations and the EU Data Commisioner in Ireland.
But first you will need to read through and comply with the UE GDPR regulations, which are here:- https://gdpr-info.eu
Reading those will keep you busy for at least a week.
Personally I'm keeping well clear of them. _________________

would details of vehicles be considered "persona"l data ?
for example
if I was passing a white swb series 1 L400, such as you have, and noted those details as well as the public displayed registration number - and made s list of other such observations ?
another way would be just to take a photo and post it
and that way maintain a record ? _________________ 2.8 1994 L400 LWB blue/grey Super Exceed

At what point does data become personal data? Someone whose real name I don't know lives somewhere in 10 mile radius of me and has a vehicle similar to mine. The only way I could contact them would be to PM them through this site. They don't have to reply if they don't want to. Interpretation of what GDPR means is worse than it should be. It used to be that when I went supply teaching, the school would provide me with paper registers and a set of thumbnail pics of my classes, so I could identify who was who. Now, many schools won't provide them, supposedly due to GDPR. What is the point of me being Police checked every year (and paying for the privilege) if I can't identify some little horror who gives me someone else's name? _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

let's say we had a category for posts entitled UK registered delicas
and
sub headings based on registration number
and including a pictorial record for each
- no need to identify the owner / or similar details (unless posted by that person in the same manner as in the other forums posts from time to time eg pix of your dlica) _________________ 2.8 1994 L400 LWB blue/grey Super Exceed

Is a picture or reg number necessary?
The only bit of information missing that would be helpful is the Deli type.
We already have a handle and area recorded, so a sticky with UK registered owners, or geographically split stickies, by scotland/ireland/south/frozen north etc?
This would be users posting their own info onto a public forum so doesn't come under gdpr?
What say yous? |
