There is only the one. That is inside the elbow at the top end of the hose going from the engine to the bottom of the radiator.
The water pump is mounted below, and more centrally, where you can see the two belts on the pulley wheel:-

There are two Thermistors (temperature sensors) on the Cylinder head,
one is for the Temperature reading on the dash board, the other for Glow Plug & Over Drive function.

The poster said "was told there are 2 thermostats, one waterpump, 2nd on inlet manifold,"

Maybe some misunderstanding on component names & locations  Question  Question

That is how I see/saw it.

94 Delica 2.8 diesel PFW8 - Recent overheating issue, prior to this replaced rear main engine seal, overheating started post surgery. car sat for a couple of months awaiting the rear main, cooling system was full of shitty muddy water for some time from previous owner, so we thought the water pump and thermostat needed replacing, also header tank had been leaking so got a new bottle too. anyway after flushing system still over heating with temp quite quickly going to 3/4 or the top of guage. I'm praying head gasket not gone, after flushing was no sign of bubbles continuing to come to surface in header tank, any suggestions on overheating issues would be very good for my mental health! blockage somewhere?? have left cooling system flush in but needs to stay in for 200kms and it won't be going too far atm, even getting hot at idle

If you have changed the water pump, thermostat and header tank, and thoroughly flushed the system, and bled it right through, sounds like there is only the radiator left to change. If the you flushed a lot of rusty mud out of the system, there is a good chance that the radiator still has a lot of rusty flakes blocking it. Did you use a flushing agent which loosens, dissolves and lubricates such sediment, or just water? Did you check for cool spots on the radiator? Does the new coolant not just water) still look clean?

A simple check for head gasket or cracked head is to place the expansion tank overflow hose into a half filled glass of water whilst the engine is running, if it bubbles then you have an issue.

Just a minor thought, but did you fit the replacement thermostat in the right way up ?

I.E. With the little hole, with the jiggle pin, at the top.

That helps allow air caught up in the system get pushed through, as if there is an air pocket inside the elbow there will be no water getting to the thermostat, to heat it up, so it won't open.

It should have a rubber ring around the outside edge, as per the photo above.

That acts as the gasket when placed in the housing. Without that it's useless.

See this post: www.MDOCUK.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=49207

Personally I get this one:- Comma Coldmaster Concentrate and Dilute it 50/50.
