Is this telling me that my 4WD has gone?

No. The gears are mechanical, so it should still be functioning.

The lights are there to tell you what state / position the transmission is in.

Could be as simple as the bulbs have blown.

replaced mine with LEDs.

Thanks both.

I literally did a forum search for 2WD 4WD, so I don't understand why this didn't appear in the results.

It looks like I don't search for answera to these things myself.  This keeps happening.

Anyway, I shall look.

So you think it's perfectly feasible that 2WD AND two 4WD lights both 'popped' at exactly the same time?

The central diff lock still light still shows

All four bulbs at same time - hmmm.

Might be the connector to the dashboard just needs pulling to clean the contacts.
Same for the bulbs, take em out put em back
Whilst dash is out, carefully inspect for "track" damage.

Always try simple first.

All four bulbs yes.

So what happens when the mechanics of it break, doesn't that ever make the four lights go out, or is that impossible (hopeful face)

It will actually only be two bulbs, one for the front wheels on the graphic and one for the back wheels (and there is another for the Difflock light in the middle)
Getting into it is easy, I've done it a few times and have no mechanical know how at all!

Drop the steering column adjuster down to the bottom (if it isn't already)
Remove three screws from underneath the steering column, one is higher up in the hole than the other two.
This loosens the top cover of the steering column so prise it off carefully.
Here, I've found it easier to temporarily put the gear selector into the bottom selection so its out of the way.
Then remove two screws above the speedo (going up into the top of the dash) and prise out that whole piece which includes the heater blower bits and any switches you have to the left bottom and right bottom of the steering column.

Then its only two screws in the top and two screws in the bottom of the speedo / rev counter box thingy, turn it over so you can see the back and the bulbs are in little black holders that just twist out a quarter of a turn.
The bulbs just pull straight out, push straight into the holders.

Its a lot easier to do than explain it!  Wink

Thanks encrypt!

It kinda sounds not too complicated  Confused

I wil have a look.

I am really not convinced that two lights would pop together like this, and that the lights not showing indicates a problem with the 2WD 4WD selector itself.

hmmm
Perhaps this old post, from 2015, with photos will help!  Wink

Look about half way down, where it says 'Dash console removal:'

I have now done the 4WD stick manoeuvre and find that it is in 2WD and when I run it again I will try the 4WD out properly, thank you for the tip @Lewis

However, no, no lights showing, and here's the thing, those lights stopped working and I cannot switch my auto step on/off either, its permanently on.

Now I think my aircon has stopped working too!!!

Something more is at work than a light bulb blown I think.

Any other thoughts?

Check through the fuse box post and see if you can work out which fuses may be affecting your various faulty bits. Some fuses / relays have more than one function go through them.
