Hands up if you have a Delica on the road! This would be anything falling into the category Delica
I think they are now officially rare?!
Do you have any official numbers of on road delicas from site stats mods? |

Yes they are getting rare, increasingly rare. However, especially with obscure, foreign vehicles,
they have a limited following, so prices tend to remain comparatively low. But, like most rare
vehicles, good examples are starting to go up in value. For me, there is no comparison in value
between an immaculate, low milage Delica for under £10K and the liability of a VW camper you
would get for similar money. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

As said above, they are rare and in demand judging by the number of people asking for them.
I had two at one time, but now have one and intend to keep it as long as possible. _________________ Ian.

I also wonder how much rarer for women to own them...and a manual at that.
Is there anyone on the forum, or just me <echoes> |

There appear to be several female owners who post on Delica FB forum - you don't need to be big, daft, or brawny to drive one! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Snap. Until some stupid Legislation or serious mechanical failure sends it to the crusher.
Rust prevention I have done - Hopefully, corrosion won't be a problem.

Hello Deker,
Mr.b here, yes our van does have windows all round, the sliding doors have sliding windows, and I replaced
the rubber seals last year, made a big improvement. The van is a Reimo conversion, it has a 2 ring hob,
a sink with electric pumped water, a pop top with a fold-up floor so can sleep 4 also a wind out awning which
our corsa will fit under. We love the van so do the grandkids hope to keep it forever.
Cheers Chris & Chris. |

If you wish to call it a VAN, then you will be restricted on maximum speeds.
From DVLA - This is for vans - Single carriageways: 50mph – 10mph less than a car
Dual carriageways: 60mph – 10mph less than a car
As a car, the car speed limits apply
BUT if it is a campervan, and it weighs more than 2,040 Kgs Unladen, you may be restricted to VAN speed limits.
The law is "Very Grey" here, and complicated. With definitions twixt car and van, especially with converted vehicles.
If you were to be stopped by an "Ambitious" young cop, he sez you were exceeding the VAN speed limit,
and you call it a VAN, you will have a difficult job proving otherwise in a court case.
Long time back, a fellow Battery Vehicle Society club member,
had this problem with his camper converted Diesel Transit VAN. I did not know the outcome of this.
A Delica with windows is a CAR - - - Mine is registered as an "Estate" (tho, to look at, its in a state )
So please call your Delica by that name, or call it a CAR. Or, in your case, a "Campervan" but be careful about the weight.
Remember, Cops and or DVLA roadside checks can call in ANY vehicle for weigh bridge check/s.
Including other vehicle defects. And fuel.

Flipping heck Deker!
You'e taken a simple comment and made it seema very complicated issue.
A copper stopping you and speed camera operators will already know your vehicle details.
It doesn't matter a toss what you personally call a Deli. a van, car or whatever.
It just comes down to vehicle classification on your V5C of PLG and LGV for speed limits.
PLG = Private Light Goods. i.e. Cars
LGV = Light Goods Vehicle i.e. Commercial vehicle
Even small ambulances, without windows are classed as PLG.
All you need to do is ensure you have your own vehicle registered correctly and return your V5C to the DVLA to have it changed if it is wrong. If your converting a commercial vehicle to private use you will also need to send in a Form V10, to change the Tax class.
Do not use the words 'Utility' or 'Pickup' anywhere as this makes it liable for paying various congestion and emission zone fees, which a car may be exempt from.
The correct registration class is:-
Tax group = Private Light Goods (PLG)
Body Type = MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle
Unless you have had a Camper conversion done properly, which includes the legally required sleeping, cooking, eating, toileting and hanging space for clothes, don't bother trying to class it as a camper, or motorhome. If you have had a Pro conversion done then you can also get it insured as one, rather than as a car, due to the insurance being cheaper.
People who have had a DWP PIP assessment award, in the mobility side of the assessment, at the enhanced rate (12 or more points) can use a V10 form to have their Tax class changed to 'Disabled', which pays zero Tax. Those who have been awarded Standard rate, with 8 - 11 points remain as PLG, but only pay 50% of the tax rate for their Deli. An award over 8 points also permits the owner to have a blue disability badge.
EG: a 2.8TD Deli registered before 2001 currently pays £265, with PIP at the mobility standard rate, with 8 points it is £132.50. _________________

Lovely to hear from everyone!!!
Really useful info Lewis. I always call mine a Deli and classify it as an MPV to anyone asking what it is!
I've never really thought of it as a van, as to me thats closed in (no windows) . Not really thought of it as a car though either.
Just a Deli mpv.
To my mind calling it a van makes it somehow less, as its so much more!
Anyway, that wasn't the topic of convo, interesting as it is.
Waving to everyone with their Deli's on the road still, and determined to hang on for years to come.
I do wonder at how many (few) are on the road when I pass by one and think how unlikely it is to see another when there are supposedly only a couple of hundred registered.
So it seems there are more L300 manuals, than L400? Only had L300 responses for other manuals on here. |
