|

I parked into a space yesterday on a very steep hill to get out of the hot sun. I think I asked too much of the Deli.
Once in the small car park I was committed as I had nosed downhill diagonally to reverse up and back into space, so my only way out was back and up! It was a tight space in a small car park
It didn't move, and then did and eventually I got it parked well.
However, there was burning, and smoke, and now pulling away under any stress gradient causes lurching and g'dn g'dn type noise, is the best I can describe it.
What have I done? I am wondering whether I've burnt the clutch out or something. |

Yours is an automatic if I remember rightly, so no clutch as such.
My guess from info given is a torque converter issue. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

What did it smell like, i.e plastic or oil, etc and where did the smoke come from, i.e. underneath, engine bay, dashboard, etc ? _________________

Oh i really wish id left the handbrake on Baz! I have never had to pull the handbrake on so hard as only at the very top did it actually stop my Deli rolling forward! So i know i did a reverse handbrake hill start and released the handbrake.
The smoke came.from underneath, i think smelt more like oil/rubber type acrid smell.
Its manual Yoza...used to have auto also, now only the manual, probably cause of confusion.
I have driven it today very carefully and its behaved, but i think there is still that slight smell happening, not seen any more smoke though. Seem to have to be very careful with the clutch to ensure its not under strain, i.e. plenty of revs before changing up etc. Managed a steep hill fine with a run up at it, butnot happy |

It's never the easy option but a clutch change might be cheaper than a box repair or swop.I have just texted Buzzr6mille he had a clutch change done and might have an idea.

Yo, if it's the clutch then it should just slip, ie just rev higher without moving faster.
Is the peddle any higher at the biting point? The smell could be burned clutch plate I'd guess _________________ 2nd gear low and go go go!

Les.
Annek was at my place a while back, I noticed the clutch (fork/bearing ) was rattling a lot.
You got any thoughts on that

Could be the thrust bearing starting to fail, that's the usual cause for any noise.
I had mine replaced at a cost of about £500, mine failed and slipped, so bad I nearly had to get it either recovered there or towed _________________ 2nd gear low and go go go!

Theres no slipping, i.e. the revs just suddenly running higher.
Its horrible |

Could be the pressure plate at fault, not sure what to suggest _________________ 2nd gear low and go go go!

Thanks for replies. I was brave enough to test it out on a slight inclineand there was no repeat, which was really surprising! And a bit
Also, as an aside...I have just noticed a tiny flick switch, I tried to attach a pic but I've never notoced it before I guess it could be anything, but I really thought I knew by now all the on/off switches?!!
Mystified, any thoughts?
(I tried to post a pic, but its only from a url) |
