What is everyone's opinion on buying something with rust at the top of the windscreen?
I've heard it is one of the worst / most expensive areas to fix..

Thanks
Mark...

I bought mine with rust above the front windscreen and also at the back. The underneath of the vehicle is solid and has no sign of rust or previous welding and everything mechanical is fine. I've had it for 14 months now and it's not been an issue. The money that I saved on buying it with these issues has covered the cost of the vehicle when I factor in what I haven't had to spend out on.

It depends on what you are looking for in a Delica; for me, this was a good entrance in to ownership. I might get around to having the roof fixed, but it's not leaking in at the moment so I'll leave it and enjoy the Delica for now. If it becomes a bigger problem, it's now at a price point where I can write it off and start again

Did you mean leave the rust on the top of the window and look for rust else where ?

No!

I meant look for something without rust on top of the window. If there is rust under the paint then it is invairiably down to micro-holes in the steel.
Water vapour collects, in summer it gets warmed up and expands the area, come winter more vapour collects and in summer it expands again until you get it treated.

If you want something without having to do metal repairs and repainting then it's not worth it.

I am thinking that as the L400 has a bonded-in windscreen which would need to be removed to do a proper bare metal refurb, it is likely to incur extra expense and would not be a straightforward DIY job?
