I had the usual black woven intercooler piping. I replaced it with metal piping from a later model.

A chap in Chile tells me

" I think this modification is not good. The engine vibrates. The intercooler is fixed to the chassis. The original hoses are long and absorb that vibration. With your modification, that absorption area is minimal. It could damage the intercooler that is aluminium and crack it".

This i what i said

"Thank you. In practical terms no person has ever mentioned this issue, not the Delica specialist who sold me the part nor my mechanic who installed it. This is not a modification. It is an original part taken from a later model Delica L400. Also, even if what you say is so, you will see that between the intercooler and the metal pipe is a short peice of the flexible black piping which would negate the potential problem you allude to. The original black piping is reinforced to stop the walls flexing in use, reducing its efficiency, which the metal pipe addresses."

Does anyone have a view on this ?

It is an aftermarket item, not OEM, as Mitsubishi never did metal piping for them, just the black braided hoses.

There is nothing wrong with your installation as the short section of braided hose will absorb any vibration there is between the movement of the engine and the fixed position of the intercooler.

If anything the metal pipes help get more air through, as they do not inflate under pressure, as do the braided hoses.

They are of the same type that Lee (lskillan) makes:- http://www.tigweld4u.com/Delica-intercooler-hose.htm

I don't think going hard pipes is of much advantage if any, no the hard pipes won't inflate BUT the inflation of the hoses isn't continuous so in real terms it probably reduces the time that it takes to hit full boost at the manifold by half a second or so so its only ever going to be cosmetic at best.......

Each to there own though  :D

We are not running F1 McLaren's here, we have old diesel chuggers, shiny steel pipes are simply aesthetic embellishments rather than performance upgrades.

Our trucks are tools, not jewels.....anyone trying to tart them up with jewellery and makeup is completely missing the point, that includes painting your wheels pink. Embarassed

Oops. I'm in the process of making my LWB an off-road cruiser. Embarassed

Loads of shiney bits and lights to be added after the tinworm is sorted.

I think my L300 has been reliable because I do the minimum under-seat (bonnet) work. As it doesn't have an intercooler, I don't have to worry about such performance-increasing bling. I have thought about adding some Ford-style white stripes and rear spoiler to improve aerodynamics and downforce, but someone said the effect would only be noticeable above 75mph. So would the noise - and the fuel consumption!

Should i paint the tow bar Gold as well  Question

Recently upgraded the front home made front  D E L I C A   LEDs with brighter ones.

Now I am in the process of making extra LED Reverse lights  Idea

And to replace my old red Mitsu triangle badge on the front,
I'm making a new Mitsu triangle emblem, that will be illuminated with White LEDs.

At least I am MAKING my LED add ons.

I'm hoping to get these made and fitted, ready for the Peak District meet.

It gets worse - - - Being as these Delica's are considered "Old Cars" I've added a "Klaxon" hooter  Shocked
