Hi again.

The best place to mount an EGT sensor ( as far as I know )  is in the EGR blanking plate .... right ?
But .. where is the best place in an 4d56 diesel engine where there is no EGR valve  ( so there is not a blanking plate at all ) ?

They are fitted in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC).

Out of curiosity - Why do you want to fit one ?

According several posts over the internet it's the ideal way to monitor the engines temperature when towing in climbing hills ...
... so I thought It would be a good idea in my case during summer

The places I mentioned are the 'general' places where they are fitted on any vehicle that has engine management chip.

An EGT sensor is connected to a vehicles ECS for optimum running.

My curiosity is due to there being no DPF or DOC on the 4D56 engine exhaust system and therefore no connection to an ECS that controls the engine.

My thoughts are not where to fit one, but why fit one ?

If you want to moniotor any temperatures then think more in terms of the temperature of the water in the cooling system and fit a temperature sensor in the water output hose, between the block and the radiator.

Actually...
the water temp sensor is ready for installation in the next few days .
I was thinking ( and purchased one ) the Exhaust Temp Sensor as extra protection measure for my engine.

So if normally before the DPF or DOC, fit it into the exhaust downpipe immediately after the turbo. You want to read the highest temperature before it has had chance to cool. Unless you have boosted your turbo, I don't think EGT is likely to cause issues, even  in a hot Greek summer!

I think that it should be fitted in parts 2 or 17 in the above pic ( Inlet fitting or Exhaust fitting ) ...
depending on where is  easier to drill and fit the probe .

No 2 is air inlet, which connects via No 4 from No 13 taking cold air to the air intake.
