Gona buy a L300 snorkel from jimny bits because I want one. Has anyone bought from them before ? Also I know that it should increase the cool air going in to the engine. please forgive my ignorance but does the cool air help keep engine temp down or just help with combustion? I know that the water keeps the engine cool just wondering if a snorkel would help this ?
Thanks
grib

No, a snorkel won't help keep the engine cool. It will, however, allow the engine to keep working while you're helping keep it cool by having it under water. Smile

The cooler the air going into the inlet manifold increases its density, therefore increasing the quantity of air.
So - helps with combustion, and cooling the inlet system.

Hi grib,

Yes I have a snorkel from  jimny bits. Always had good service from them, not the cheapest but good & reliable. Fitting was okay, but watch out for the clearing all the electric behind the bodywork when drilling the inlet hole in your L300.

My L300 has never run hot ... now Or before fitting the snorkel. As Deker said " The cooler the air going into the inlet manifold increases its density, therefore increasing the quantity of air." On my L300 the Revs are lower with the snorkel & the miles on a tank of diesel was very slightly better, I do mean Very slightly. Maybe a extra mile per tank at best.

Possum, when you say the revs are lower, do you mean it changes up at lower revs (like it has more torque?) I can't see how the revs would be lower for any given speed once it has locked in gear, whether auto or manual.

Hi andyman,
Yes that's correct. Sorry didn't explain myself very well, It changes up through the auto gearbox at a lower revs.

The snorkel & I guess with my bigger free flow side exhaust, in my mind seems to help the engine at lower speeds. Not sure if it makes any different  at higher speeds as I haven't gone much above 70 on the motorway with roof grate & 2" lift, slow & steady for my L300.

Extra low-down torque and earlier change-ups could justify me investing in one. I wish I didn't have to ease off at 50mph to persuade it to change into O/D!

Don't have that problem as mine is a Manuel. Can just do just over 70 but a bit sketchy at that speed plus kanes fuel. Have now ordered a snorkel so will let you know if I experience any difference. Anyone know if there is any thing I should do /look out for while installing the snorkel? ,except for the electrics behind the pillar which I have already been informed about
