while looking under my van the other day i noticed that the torsion bars are wound right up as high as they can go does this mean that they need replacing? as my passenger side is about 1/2 inch lower then the drivers side..
thanks

You should be able to re-index the bars. That means removing the adjuster arm from the splined end of the bar, rotating it by a couple of splines and putting it back on. Easier said than done, but then gives you renewed adjustment. What are your hub centre-to-wheelarch dimensions (vertical)?

Needs to be fully jacked up, at front with hubs "hanging", and adjusters fully unwound. so the adjuster bolts are not under tension. I have never done this. 22" is 560mm. I believe standard is 530mm, so why don't you just lower the high side by 1/2"?

Not so easy. You would have to remove the spring, get it heated and retempered in the right shape. Job for a skilled blacksmith. Check the "eyes" are not distorted, or the bushes badly worn. Nearside gets the most hammer, - from gutters and drains and the weight leaning that way due to road camber.

i measured the other wheels and all are at 510mm so a bit low but i think there is not mush point in resetting the torsion bars unless i am redoing the rear springs other wise it will be high at the front.

I can re-set Leaf Springs cold, no heat, no hammering needed.

I did it years ago, on me Ford Corsair,
Had been mini cabbing with the car, the extra loads with people + loads O luggage, + some nutcase of a driver - What  Shocked   Question
made the springs sag.

Found it quite easy. All that is needed, a decent bench vice and 3 short bars of steel.

There is a post by Mystery Machine (Bruce) on doing them. The photos and instructions may be helpful.

See:- http://www.MDOCUK.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=132692

Here's some photos of the adjuster after sliding it off the torsion bar a bit.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/hJDqWSUM1YsSZxrg8

I did it much the same as Bruce's (Mystery Machine) post.

1. Cut the upper rubber bumper stop in half
2. Jack up the van (chock the wheels and make safe etc)
3. Wedge some wood or other spacers in the lower bump stop gap and lower the car on the jack until it is the right height/lift. Adjust the number of blocks until approx right height.
4. Get it back on the jack and axle stands so it is safe and the blocks are just pinched in the lower bump stop gap
5. Undo the adjuster lock nut and the main adjuster nut completely
6. You can now move the adjuster bolt to one side, pull back the rubber dust cover and slide the adjuster off the torsion bar. Move it round a couple of splines and put it back on.
7. Put the adjuster bolt back in place and put on the spacer and do up the nuts.
8. Do up the nut until the wood blocks become loose and you should be approx the right height as a starting point.
9. Put it all back together, drive round the block to settle, then do the finer adjustment on level ground
10. Do up the lock nut!

And just to add - on my driver's side I can't get the adjuster off the spline because I have a side pipe exhaust mount in the way.
So have to pull the torsion bar out of the front wishbone, which is just as easy.
