Hello.

I'm considering getting some extra gauges installed - primarily temperature but I was wondering what other people have done regarding this.  What sort of guages and placement? wiring, neatness etc. Any prior experience / lessons learnt that I could benefit from?

I have 9 extra dials some in the dash and 3 in a pod cluster.

There are posts somewhere with pictures.

Haydn Low Water and High Temperature Alarm.

Pricey, but I think its worth it. Certainly lets me know the water level is low.

Yoza

I found your post thanks!  I've decided to go for similar but found some dual display units.  They have 2 temperature reading on each one.  That way I can monitor the Hot and Cold sides of the radiator on one display.  I've also purchased a display for Volts and Amps.  Hopefully it will be more useful than the default Delica one.

For the coolant alarm I must admit I feel uneasy with putting holes in the expansion tank.  Are there other reliable options or am I overly concerned?

Thanks

Yes.
There is no problem with drilling a hole, then inserting a watertight screw in the header / top up tank.
Think about the flimsy plastic tubes on the tank, they are known to break easily  Crying or Very sad

I have found a photo of my Delica set up, zoom in to see what they monitor.

Thanks! I did manage to find the post that that photo is from and it has been really useful.

So far I've 2x duel displays for temperature and a volts/amps display.  These will allow me to measure the hot and cold side of the radiator. The outside/cabin temperature.  And the volts from the battery, not yet sure what to measure the AMPs across yet.  Still waiting for all the bits to arrive for this setup as well.

In the new year I will be on to sorting a coolant alarm.

Nice.

I measure the coolant into the rad and out of the rad too, to make sure it is doing its job.

I fitted analogue dials to my Audi for a bit of a change, along with a multi-functional heads up display, which is fantastic but won't work on my Delica as the OB1 port doesn't support it.

I set up my shogun like this with a mix of digital and analogue.

And this is the heads up display in the Audi, it is difficult to photograph the projection but basically what you see is a suspended readout of information that you look through whilst still focusing on the road ahead.(looks a bit like a 3 d film)
